A Conversation w/ Omali Yeshitela about Black Leadership and The Uhuru Movement

omali Black is BackHere on Hard Knock Radio and Free Speech TV, we’ve been doing a series on leadership and exploring the political philosophy that inform organizers and the movements they are a part of.. We want to give listeners and viewers and chance to hear directly from leaders about their respective organizations without their words being reduced to soundbites or have us distracted by arguments about who is right or wrong..

We understand that many have spent years of their lives and lots resources uplifting their organizations and hence we wanted to provide a platform where they can present their insights and allow folks to follow-up based upon what is said and not interpreted via us in the media.

We recently sat down with Omali Yeshitela who is the Chairman of the International people’s Democratic Uhuru Movement (InPDum) which is headquartered in St Petersburg, Florida and had an in-depth conversation about his organization which is part of the larger

Omali explained that his organization are African Internationalist and they fight for the liberation of African people throughout the diaspora. They also believe that socialism should be the way in which we govern..

Our conversation touched upon a wide range of issues ranging from strategies one must use to obtain a successful movement, points in which movements can compromise, building strong coalitions, the role of women in the movement and how to dismantle sexism. We talked about the importance of culture and artistic expression in building a movement.

  1. Yeshitela is right when he says that parasitic capitalism must go. We don’t need benevolent capitalists. The system is the problem.

  2. I commend the efforts of the Uhuru movement here in America and through-out the worlds. Your organization tactic of serving suedo-subpoena’s on local law authorities in cases such as describe (http://uhurunews.com/story?resource_name=president-diop-olugbala-arrested-by-the-nypd-take-action-now) have proven in your history ineffective and result similar to what is being discuss here.

Secondly, your organization papers have no legal authority or power to force anyone to appear at your mock hearings. You have the right to request / invite local law enforcement authorities appearances, but demanding invites hostility from the recognized enforcers of the law. Now if that is your attentions than announce and declare that, but when it happens don’t play the victim card. And don’t attempt to twist my words to suit your defense and organization motivation and aspirations which I’m on board with well defined and orchestrated demands and objectives.

Thirdly, you say Black / African Americans are not real Americans which is a half truth, also sounded by white racist organizations, and in the heart of 70% of white Americans. On the other hand, you cite historical events and evidence of the Black / African people experiences as the main builders (through slavery and social activism demanding human treatment in the society) of Americas wealth and power. Don’t you realize the worth and value of 448 years of a singular group / race contributions to a Nation (forced or otherwise) such as our ancestors blood, sweat and tears earns us living today natural providence as inheritors of this land alone side our native brothers and sisters. We are more Americans than any other race or group in this land.

Lastly, Uhuru spring boards from our dear belated Brother Marcus Garvey liberation movement, and rightfully so. Did Garvey movement involve serving subpoenas on law authorities riding the back of the Black community? No! He got busy organizing like minded Blacks that wanted to build through land acquisitions back in so-called Africa, create Black commerce and trade between Blacks here in America and the mother-land. Real Nation building can only be establish with ownership of land and resources controlled by a declaration or constitution respected by the majority of Nations in the international community. Until Uhuru and other so-called Black organizations / liberation entities shifts its focus towards that type of revolution than you will continue in the vacuum of dis-organization.

Oh and if you think your well organized to fight local law enforcement authorities than where is / was your legal team and departmental funds to support members when they are arrested like President Wali “Diop” Rahman, on 5/16/2013

  3. Secondly Dave, next time you are in the company of Omali Yeshitela who is the Chairman of the International people’s Democratic Uhuru Movement (InPDum) maybe you can can get him to respond to this question in particular I’ve asked his local representatives and presidents I have not, nor did it come up in your interview with Omali. Question,

Regarding Omali Yeshitela described new Socialism order he envisions. How / what will his “Hierarchy” be, and its structure?
