In the scorching San Bernardino heat, I tried to track down Immortal Technique for a good two hours at Rock The Bells. His cold, comfortable trailer had been untouched all through the day when I found him outside in the sun, at his merch booth, a few hours into signing autographs and talking to fans.

After a half a day of doing this, everywhere he walked, people rushed to him every few steps of the way: fans asking to take pictures, fellow artists talking about past and future collaborations, women who wanted to flirt and shower him with hugs. It was never-ending. And he respectfully and good-naturedly gave every single one of these people his limited time.

When it was time for our interview, he looked around and said, “I don’t even know where my trailer is.” I showed him the way and as the door closed behind us, his sociable disposition disappeared immediately as his deep eyes intently awaited my questions.

Immortal Technique is not in the game to fuck around. He is a machine on a mission that does not stop. And once his body ceases to move, his brain kicks in overtime.

-Ani Yapundzhyan-

AniIn the wake of the Zimmerman verdit, you engaged your 200,000+ Twitter followers in a very eye-opening dialogue about race-relations in modern-day America as well as in the historically in the world. What prompted that dialogue?

Immortal Technique: The most important thing for me was to facilitate a dialogue about race and racism and there were people who contacted me who were Caucasian who said “Yo, listen, I feel like every time I talk about race, people call me a Racist. So can we have a conversation about that?” And I said, “Sure. Let’s talk about Race in America. Let’s talk about the Mythology about Race. Let’s talk about the mythology of America, because that’s intrinsically linked to Race.”

For example, some little-known facts are that when Europeans first colonized this continent, that massive amounts of Europeans defected from those colonies. They didn’t wanna be in a Puritan society, they didn’t wanna be with people who ordered them how to pray. They claimed that they were coming here looking for Religious Freedom. So if that’s the case, and you’re based on a Capitalist society, why can’t you admit that the reason you came here-dispelling the Mythology of America, which was the point of that whole conversation-you didn’t come here just for religious freedom and looking for new lands, you came here for Gold. You came here looking for Slaves. You came here looking for women and land that you could steal. Why don’t you be honest about that with yourself as a human being and that way we get to the core of the real problem.

The other thing is this: In the same way that for example, the Soviet Union, when it held on to Eastern Europe, couldn’t explain how if their brand of society was superior-as they claimed-to American Capitalism, everybody kept running away and trying to get over to the other side. The Europeans could not explain, “How is it that we have massive defections from a European society to an Indigenous society that’s supposed to be quote unquote “inferior,” full of “savages?” And that’s very important. Why? Because Native-Americans judge people based on the merit of who people Were. How did you Act? I don’t care if you’re white, I don’t care if you’re from Ireland. I don’t care if you’re from Italy. I don’t care if you’re from England. Europeans had a hierarchy amongst themselves the same way people from the Caucus region do, the same way people from Latin America and from Asian countries do, the same way people in Islamic societies in the Middle East do…but they said to themselves, “This is ridiculous, when you come to us from another culture, what you put into this society is what you get.”

Now obviously, nothing was perfect. It’s still a human society. But at the same time, we had people that were giving a willingness for mobility within the society to say, “You can be part of us and we’re not gonna treat you like property.” I’m not saying Native Americans never had slaves, I’m saying that when their societies were pitched against European societies, people could not explain the mass defections, which were punishable by corporal and capital punishment. Same thing that we see in places like East Germany or the former Czechoslovakian state, where people wanted to leave, they wanted to run away. But at the same time, they can’t explain that. And I think, when you get to that, that’s the whole point of it.

If I can facilitate a dialogue about these things that exist in our society and that permeate every relationship that a government has and get down to the human relations of it, then I can begin to heal-at least in the inner circle that I have-the cancer of Racism. Because I think that it’s about time that that became extinct. And maybe I can’t stop it completely, but I feel like if I can at least wake up a few people who are blind to its existence, people who don’t even think that it exists- ’cause unfortunately those are the most affected by Racism-those people that think that Racism doesn’t exist. That it’s just something that the NAACP does. I mean, I’ve seen people on the internet that go, “Oh, the NAACP and the KKK are the same thing!” Uh, no. The NAACP ain’t never lynched motherfuckers. They never murderedpeople for profit like that. Are you kidding me? They never tried to justify a legacy of chattel slavery.

So I think that it was really me destroying a lot of social lies that were constructed by ultra-conservative, right-wing factions that I felt needed to be addressed at that particular time.

Ani: All great societies were built on slave labor. Why do you think that Africa, which is the richest continent as far as natural resources in the world, is the poorest, statistically worse-off continent?

Technique: Lack of Unity. Specific division. The British were incredible at that, the French were incredible at that, and I think that they hide behind their “civilization” and “culture” when in reality, they presented the image of a “Civilized Barbarian” to the rest of the world. In other words, Ani, who’s more civilized? The African dude in the loin cloth who’s tending sheep and goats in West Africa, who is half-naked because it’s 120 degrees, who’s Gods are the Earth, and the spirits of Stream and Wood and Forest, Water and Air, who’s the more savage, him or the religious fanatic from Europe in the 13th century who hops off a boat, full of armor, unshaven, who is such a zealot and an extremist that he thinks dinosaur bones are put in the ground to test the faith of humanity, who thinks that he can excuse his behavior by putting someone in irons who is not of his exact demographic.

Ani: So how did that behavior win out?

Technique: Because I think that the human race is, honestly, confined to the behavior of a talking monkey. I think the danger that we face right now, Ani, is that when we go to a museum, and we see “Australopithecus” we see “Homo habilis” “Homo erectus” “Neanderthal” “Cro-Magnon” I think we’re in danger of some little kid a thousand years from now walking into a futuristic museum and saying, “Oh, there’s Homo sapien sapien: the well-groomed, superstitious, warrior-monkey that used to talk. And he harnessed the power of the Atom, but for all his incredible inventions, he was still limited by his incapacity to control his emotions. By his own ego, and his own over-inflated sense of self-importance. He thought the universe revolved around him. He thought that the Earth belonged to him instead of him belonging to the Earth. No respect for nation, no respect for nature, no respect for his fellow man, seeing that it’s OK to kill somebody, or it’s not as bad, if they’re not from the same demographic as they are.”

In other words, I see conservative Christian people who are so gung-ho about abortion and “we’re killing babies” but you don’t mind killing Iraqi babies. But if they were Christian white babies, you’d have a problem with that. But because they’re Muslim, dark-skinned children, you don’t care. That makes you a fake Christian to me.

Ani: And it goes back to Trayvon.

Technique: Not just to him. And I think that’s where I would differ in this. To me, I think the Trayvon Martin case was completely mishandled by the prosecution. I think that instead of focusing on Race, solely, they should’ve focused on the fact that this was still a child, that this was still a human being that was destroyed, unnecessarily. That if we’re talking about the social construct of race, what difference would it have made? Would George Zimmerman have followed a well-to-do looking, light-skinned, half-Latino, half-White kid who’s skipping in the rain, as he described him in the Sean Hannity interview? Skipping. In the rain. But that’s different. I think that when you talk about the media, they also have to share some of the blame and responsibility.

When you show people on welfare, this has nothing to do with Trayvon. When you show people on welfare, you show black people, even though the majority of people on welfare are white women. But you don’t show white women, you don’t show white working-class women. This county has always used white working-class people as a buffer. To not expose the real issue of Classism. They’ve always wanted to focus on Racism, because Classism is what will bleed this fuckin’ country. If poor and disenfranchised white people say to themselves, “Goddamit, what the fuck are we getting out of this? We’re told to blame immigrants but its not the immigrants who are making money out of this. It’s these multi-national corporations that ship these jobs over to America, so that they can make a profit that has nothing to do with helping anybody else ’cause trickle-down economics was never part of the problem. It was never part of the issue. You know why it was never a part of the problem? Cause it was never part of the solution. They didn’t give a fuck about that.

Ani: It does’t even make sense, that whole theory and idea of trickle-down economics.

Technique: Right, because the re-investment per-capita is not there.

Ani: “Take what you can get and be happy” is really what fucking “trickle-down” means. Literally.

Technique: In other words, “we’re peeing on you.”

Ani: Syria. I’m not even going to ask a question. I’m just going to say the word and let you take it from there.

Technique: (sighs) I know a lot of people on both sides of this debate, and the people that I’ve talked to that are pro-rebels will tell me, “Yes, we know we’re making a deal with the devil. We know that we’re getting money funded through slush-funds from America, that lie about them, saying ‘We have never supported the Syrian rebels.'” Of course you have, you’ve been giving them money through all your vassal states: Turkey, you’re a vassal state of America. I don’t know if you realize that, but America has more to do with the policies that you have in your country, even if it seems that they’re against them. Saudi Arabia, as proud as you are of your Wahhabi culture, you’re a vassal state to America. They have more military bases in your country than they do in any state, individually, in America.

I don’t know if you realize this, but Israel is the biggest welfare state-no disrespect to any people of the Jewish faith-is the biggest welfare state that America keeps. They keep it afloat. Without American dollars, there would be no Israel. I think what’s important to note about these things is that those people say, “Yes, we know we’re are making a deal with the devil. But we’re trying to get rid of another devil.” The problem that I have with that, is that even though I can’t support a dictator, like Bashar al-Assad, his supporters, I’m afraid sometimes, I’ve had conversations where these people are delusional, they’ll tell me, “No, he’s never abused his power, he’s never abused any people.” And I’m just like, “Yo dude, in order for you to run a non-Democratic government, where you have not been voted into power…to have a lock on everything in the military, you have to rule with an iron fist.”

Now obviously, his father was more of a ruthless dictator than he was, and Bashar al-Assad was welcomed as a reformer, in many communities actually. I remind people of this, he was invited to stay at Buckingham Palace, he was greeted as a hero. Same way a lot of the Afghan rebels were by American society. They said, “Yeah, even though these people are radical, and we radicalize them in the name of getting rid of the Russians, we wanted to do that.” That history is now lost. And I think what people don’t understand, is that if you look at both sides of the equation, America refuses to allow Russia and China to come to the table. In the same way that the NeoCons like Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz, when they were bleeding Russia and Afghanistan, said, “You know what, we’re not gonna let you leave with your grace, we’re gonna bleed you ultimately. This is an ultimatum, an ultimate ‘Fuck You.’ This is a Rape of your society. If you want to have your troops home, they can be home tomorrow, pull them out.”

Imagine if someone that said to America, “If you wanna get out of Afghanistan, your troops can be home tomorrow.” But what is the issue? The issue is, “How can I pull them out and not seem like I’m a coward, like I’m running away?” That’s what America refuses to do stubbornly and that’s why it lost so many tens of thousands of troops in Vietnam, and if we had the same medicine that we had back then that we do now in Iraq, we would have a similar casualty rate. What we have now is people that have been maimed and had their bodies half destroyed, so the body count is technically lower, but unfortunately, when I think about it, in terms of Syria, I find it very hard to consider that John Kerry cares about the lives of 400 Syrian children, when you don’t care about the hundreds of children that have been killed in Pakistan by your drones. You don’t care about the “collateral damage.” Obviously, a lot of people that have talked to me say that they need global positioning in the area, that this is the original part of the diagram, and something that I really wanna share before I get out of here, cause I really do have to get the fuck outta here, but… some history:

Before WWI, the powers of Europe decided that they would carve up the Ottoman Empire, the sick man of Europe. And everybody got their slice. The Russians took the entire Caucus region. They said “Since you have the Russian-Turkish War, we’ll help you.” And England, France, everybody else said “Ok, you know what we’ll do? We’ll give you all the Caucus: Chechnya, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia.” That’s why they’re willing to trade pieces with America. They said, “Oh, word? Since we backed the Serbians and you wanna carve Kosovo out?” What happened, they played tit-for-tat, ’cause right afterwards, if you remember, they went into Georgia and they said, “We’re gonna carve out South Ossetia.” And if you look at it, it’s pretty much geographically the same amount of land that the other people took.

So it was a clear message to America that says: If you wanna fuck around in our backyard, we’re gonna fuck around with the people that think you’re gonna help them. Because at the end of the day, you’re not gonna commit troops to Georgia, that’s our slice.

When we went into Iraq, the French said, “We don’t wanna go.” Why, because Sykes-Picot divided the region like this: The Caucus region to Russia. Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Palestine, Jordan, would go to England. Now England brought in America as a Junior partner that’s now taken over. And France’s slice was Syria and Lebanon. Now if you remember, they said, “We don’t wanna go to Iraq.” Why? Because that’s not their slice. They didn’t give a fuck about that. So when they were gonna go to Iraq, people said, “Oh, the French don’t have the stomach for war.” How? They’ve been involved in every War since the very fuckin’ beginning. Get the fuck outta here.

Now if you think Sykes-Picot doesn’t affect things today, look at the reversal ten years from now. France is ready to go to war for Syria. Because it’s their slice. And who said No to war in Syria now? England. Because England’s slice is Iraq. England’s slice is Egypt. England’s slice is not Syria and Lebanon. So that little treaty that took place almost a hundred years ago still affects how European Powers see that zone today. And they say to themselves, “That’s mine, it’s always been mine. And the leaders will do what I say they need to do.”

And unfortunately, that’s why I tell people, “Don’t be worried about what the Patriot Act does today, be worried about what in a hundred years, they’re gonna use to justify it.

People tell me that I’m controversial because I discuss certain issues. No, I’m not controversial, those issues are controversial. If we say that we’ll attack people who use chemical weapons, and we still use, for example, depleted uranium that’s now caused more birth defects in Iraq than Agent Orange did in Vietnam, I’m not controversial for bringing that up. The United States’ government is controversial for having that in its arsenal.

If we’re talking about I’m controversial for bringing up the fact that there is a double standard on chemical weapons and there is a double standard on the way you mutilate and abuse your own people, and the way we didn’t pay any attention to the uprisings in Bahrain, and all these other places in the Middle East, and in Jordan, where people wanted the Monarchy the fuck out, because the Monarchy is the ultimate betrayal of Democracy, alright? That’s the most ruthless form of it. The most concentrated form of Oligarchy. If that’s the case, then are people not obliged to recognize that double standard? And I think that more people, when they’re doing that, really do awaken other people. Talk to people about it. Create a dialogue.

I know that everybody’s not on the same page. I know there’s some people out there, like I said, my friends, God bless ’em, I can understand yo, I can’t take anything away from your pain. If you legitimately had your family oppressed by that government, if you legitimately been disenfranchised by the al-Assad government and they’ve taken over and they’ve killed your family, I can understand why you would want him out. But realize that your movement has now been hijacked by people that will come in and will use you to say “We decide the future of Syria.”

And in my heart, I think the future of Syria should not be decided by a dictator, it should not be decided by Jihadists and paid mercenaries along with them, it should not be decided by Turkey and Kataar, and Israel and Saudi Arabia and America and France, I believe the future of Syria should be decided by the Syrian people.

Obama & His Supporters Are Going All Out to Make War w/ Syria a Reality

Melissa Harris Perry

Melissa Harris Perry

Yesterday I watched Melissa Harris Perry on her MSNBC show look into a camera with a straight face and run this argument about how we the public are frequently wrong about our decisions to oppose rushing off to war.. She gave a historical overview dating back to World War II and talked about how the public was opposed war back then but decades later it would be hard to find anyone who would argue that entering into World War II was the wrong thing to do..

Perry then paints a picture of how America prospered after WWII and how things were all rosey…After that she magically leaps over public opinion about various other war and threats of war efforts from the Korean War to Cuban Missile Crisis to Vietnam to Grenada etc to talk about how the public came out and supported Bush’s rush to war and got that wrong..

Hence she implies the pattern is such that even though 51% of the public polled is opposed to bombing Syria, we are probably wrong on this as we were during WW II.  If I hadn’t seen this and then re-saw it on the clip I posted below would’ve thought one was lying if they told me Ms perry did this.. To say the least this was ‘fascinating’ to watch and gravely disappointing she took such a ‘hawkish’ position..

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

So apparently this looks to be the new Obama talking point: Tell the people; ‘yes the public is opposed to war but the public is often wrong’ .. And to underscore this talking point we now have this compilation of footage already floating around the internet that’s been repackaged by the CIA and presented to members of Congress and local newscasts as ‘new footage‘ showing dead bodies and children gasping for air as a result of chemical weapons.

Here in Cali Senator Diane Feinstein got one of these repackaged films and personally called local Bay Area TV stations asking them to run it so the public can see what’s ‘really’ going on in Syria.. MHP referenced this footage on her show  and asked what are we gonna do about this atrocity, as if the only answer is to bomb Syria..The footage shown below is similar to what we saw on local newscasts last night and what’s in the package being shown to members of Congress.

After Melissa Harris Perry’s  history lesson  one of her guests syndicated columnist Bob Franken said if we don’t do anything we are giving up our position as the world super power and we will sink further in world standing because of upcoming sequester cuts..His remarks seem to imply that  ultimately US actions are not about saving lives it’s about saving money, saving face and maintaining prestige..

Another MHP guest Michelle Bernard, a political strategist was using her ‘strategy’ to tell us that President Obama was always a ‘dove’ while former secretary of state Hillary Clinton was a ‘hawk‘, implying that somehow our President who is a frequent user of drones which are considered tools of terror around the world, to the tune of at least 300 times in Pakistan alone, was ‘reluctant’ to come to this bomb dropping position on Syria he’s pushing…

Racist People are suspicious of President Obama, with or without a hoodie

President Obama is being depicted as a reluctant warrior in this Syrian Crises

Obama has been pretty decisive even as a candidate about using pre-emptive strikes and violating laws by using drones on foreign soil without permission or knowledge of the government in that land. He said he would do it as a candidate and he’s been doing it as president. The only regret President Obama seems to have is that his decision to bomb Syria might bring about a political backlash including impeachment hence he’s being depicted as a sympathetic figure.

What we should be clear about is that President Obama is going all out to make this bombing situation happen. This is his biggest push since his Healthcare Initiative.. That’s how important bombing Syria is to President Obama..Imagine if he went in this hard to bring about Peace?

Bernard in her remarks attempted to amp up the ‘outrage’ by noting; ‘yes the children being gassed are bad, but what’s really bad are the rapes that are also happening. She leaves of us concluding that the US must intervene to stop the rapes..Talk about pulling emotional chords.

Let’s be clear folks.. Children being gassed are horrific, indefensible actions. People being raped are horrific, indefensible  actions. No one with half a conscious wants to be attached to any of this, but before we go running off to the missile launchers to bomb Syria ask yourself what role are we as individuals supposed to play to stop such horrors directly and indirectly? We must challenge ourselves as to what roles we play directly and indirectly in the facilitation of rapes and children being killed not just in Syria but in other areas around the world.

Are we outraged about child soldiers?

Are we outraged about child soldiers? Enough to give up our cell phones & laptops?

For example, take a place like the Congo where an estimated 6 million people have been killed over the past decade and hundreds of thousands rapes and the deaths and maiming of thousands children are taking place routinely to ensure we have access to precious minerals that are used in our laptops, smart phones and other electronics.

Such atrocities continue in spite of the amendment put into Dodd Frank Protection Act which many had no idea about or even cared that in theory would push for companies to be conflict mineral free. Many say that amendment is weak and full of holes. Do we care or did it serves as a nice excuse to avoid dealing with a harsh reality and our collective conscience?

Genocide continues to this day in the Congo. Where’s our outrage  and national debate both in Congress and amongst ourselves calling for it to end?  Many are quick to talk about international law and how it needs to be enforced around the use of chemical weapons but are nowhere to be seen about the use of child soldiers which number in the hundreds of thousands used on the front lines in the Congo conflict.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFXgEk-w44s

We must ask ourselves where is the outrage and what is our responsibility about all the Black people being raped and tortured by the racist rebel forces that we supported who took over Libya? Why is that not even talked about? Why are we not talking about the fact that many of those same brutal rebel forces in Libya are now among the rebel forces in Syria?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jhT5u6ecTQ

If we are and should be upset about rapes as noted on this MHP Show, then ask yourself, what’s our thoughts about Egypt? Are we demanding Congress stop funding folks over there knowing that it was less than a month ago our collective conversation was on the drama unfolding  including widespread reports of rapes? That is still going on. Have we forgotten or did we think that all those problems somehow got resolved overnight in time for us to have this debate about Syria?

White Prophorous GasIf we are to be upset and down to go on the offensive for the use of chemical weapons, what’s our take on the use of white phosphorous used on Palestinians in Gaza in 2009 by Israel? Was there a call to bomb her or did we as a country ignore it?  Or did the US find ways to work things out diplomatically?

In recent days since this contradiction in policy and subsequent action was pointed out the government of Israel has been on a PR tear sanitizing what took place and insisting that media outlets no longer call white phosphorous chemical weapons. Yesterday the UK Observer which is owned by the Guardian agreed to Israel’s demands after what was described as a ‘degree of give and take’.

All of us have to wrestle with our own decisions and moral compasses about what atrocities we will jump up to fight and which ones we will ignore? As I asked in previous articles; are we upset that 100 thousand people have been killed in Syria including tens of thousands of children or are we upset that certain types of weapons that fit a strict definition that deem them chemicals were used?

In other words, if Assad had simply shot, stabbed, drowned, used white phosphorous gas or perhaps used drones like we do in the US, resulting in 1400 people dying would there be a debate in Congress or would it be business as usual for most Americans? Is this really about the use of nerve gas or something else? Does it matter that England sold Syria the key materials sodium fluoride used to make chemical weapons?  Think on that for minute..

We should be very careful about jumping into a civil war..The so called rebels in Syria are not a bunch of sign waving beleaguered college students who are being pushed around.. They are armed, well-trained professional militia types fighting other armed and well-trained militia types over who will control a country..There are lots of forces both inside and outside the country vying for power..Caught in the middle are folks who have no peace at all from either side..Whoever wins does not mean an end to oppression for the average person on the ground.. That’s not a discussion being held..Talks about peace and how we can at all cost find a diplomatic solution were not emphatically discussed both on MHP show and in other circles where pundits are telling us that what the public thinks about War is often wrong..

Lastly there are hundreds of Syrians who live here in America.. What I saw yesterday were 5 people on MSNBC talk about bombing a country and why the public is somehow ‘wrong’ to oppose war without any Syrians to speak for themselves.. I like folks like journalists Faria Chideya and Michelle Bernard seems nice, Same with Bob Franken? and former congressional rep Patrick Murphy but are they from Syria? Have they been there? Stay woke people, Stay Woke 24/7!!!

In the meantime here’s a Syrian-American we recently interviewed named May Alhassen whose immediate family is still in Syria. In our recent interview she was candid about how she is opposed to US Intervention.. and how her family in Syria is divide on this issue for a number of reasons…She’s a seasoned journalist who perhaps should’ve been on that panel.. Peep out what she has to say.. http://bit.ly/15II78b

Our Insightful Intv w/ Syrian-American Journalist Maytha AlHassen on US Intervention

Syrian-American Journalist Maytha AlHassen

Syrian-American Journalist Maytha AlHassen

We speak with journalist, poet and PhD candidate Maytha Alhassen a Syrian-American whose parents and immediate family are still in Syria dealing with the threat of US Intervention.

In our interview the former Al Jazeera host, gives us an in-depth historical breakdown of what life has been like for most Syrians and who are the main players competing for power in this latest conflict. She made it clear this conflict is not two-sided as they like to project here in the US..

Maytha notes its very complicated with many outside forces fueling tensions between various ethnic, religious and sectarian factions that for the most part had managed to co-exist peacefully for decades.

The conflict is also causing major tensions on the borders. Turkey sees things one way. Lebanon sees it another. It’s not easy for those in Syria to simply get up and bounce to another country.

Maytha pointed out there’s a long and sordid history of what it means when the US intervenes in global conflict and so even as there is lots of bloodshed and drama, the US jumping in may make things worse and lead to greater destabilization. The recent interventions in Libya and Iraq were not successful and underscores the United State’s track record is not being very good. There’s a lot to be concerned about and the way things are unfolding suggests that the US wants to jump in, not to save lives but to satisfy, economic and political interests.

At the same time Maytha noted that sitting in a house in Southern Cali is a bit privileged and that family and friends who are on the ground have mixed feelings about this. Some want the US to jump in, believing they can put a quick end to the bloodshed, others do not. What’s clear is that President Assad has been oppressive and so have the folks who served before him hence anything to kick up dust has the potential to move things forward.

For others they are clear, that those vying for power are not all that democratic themselves and in a sense there is the risk of trading one oppressive figure for another. The people caught in the middle are average everyday Syrians who bearing the brunt of the onslaught from all sides.

Here we have a recent TV interview on Syrian State TV where they go in on President Obama calling him a lowlife and a begger who has lacked an agenda for Black people in the US and is a hypocrite for wanting to bomb Syria while he drones children in other countries. At the same time this same man spews racial insults when referring to British Prime Minister David Cameron who he says he will send to Africa to be eaten by cannibals

Should the US Intervene in Syria’s Civil War?

Syria fightNow that we done finished celebrating Dr King 50th anniversary of the  I Have a Dream Speech and the great March on Washington, now its back to business…Many who attended this weekends festivities are now saying, ‘Lets put all that talk about peace and love to the wayside and get ready to do War with Syria’.. Pay close attention to the folks cheer leading the effort and the justification given to jump into what is now emerging to be a Civil War…

As for the use of Chemical weapons.. That’s terrible and we should figure out a way to stop them from being used..For many sending in cruise missiles is not the way to go. It sounds like another excuse for endless war and another way for those who operate within the military industrial complex to pad their pockets.  Destabilization in the Middle East is good for business.

It’s also interesting to note that folks are upset about chemical warfare in Syria while ignoring what many feel is chemical warfare here at home.. Death by chemical misuse come in many forms. It’s the gassing we’ve seen in Syria where death is immediate and  horrific as we have on TV.

Other times it shows up in GMO foods, radiation and oil leakage which compromises our water and fish supplies. It shows up in the pollutants caused by multinational corporations that are allowed to be spilled into our air and water. It shows up in the form of fracking. It shows up in the form of big businesses that often break laws, hide their wrong doings on top of spending billions of dollars in lobbying funds to resist laws and regulations compelling them to be clean.. The end result is millions die prematurely from compromised respiratory systems, heart disease, cancer etc..

And so as we jet off to Syria to stop them from using gas on their own people, we remain silent or in deep denial about the chemicals used on us.. Consider this.. There is  little difference in a king or military being oppressive towards its people and a corporation being oppressive towards its people. It’s all a matter of perspective.

In the clip below I like what Ed Husain has to say about this situation

Here’s a recent statement from the AROC Arab Resource Organizing Center

STAND WITH THE PEOPLE OF THE ARAB WORLD

STAND AGAINST US WARS FOR EMPIRE!

Once again, the Arab people, like the indigenous peoples of the Americas, Africa, and Asia before them, find themselves at the receiving end of US imperialism and ravages of US wars.

The US is preparing to strike Syria at any moment as reports are circulating of the US Sixth Fleet carrying a total of 300 cruise missiles and positioned off the Syrian and Lebanese coasts. This comes on the heels of graphic footage surfacing of another heinous crime committed in Syria’s brutal civil war, where civilians were filmed suffocating and dying as a result of suspected use of chemical agents. The scene is on the outskirts of Damascus and the massacre occurred on the evening UN weapons inspectors arrived in Syria to investigate the possible use of Sarin-like nerve agent or Chlorine gas in the Aleppo area back in May 2013. Even according to some US admissions, the Syrian armed militias orchestrated the attacks in May. It is known that the Syrian regime had decisively scored military victories in Mid Syria and would therefore stand to suffer the most damage if it were to deploy non-conventional weapons on the day UN inspectors arrive in Syria. And yet the US chose to level unsubstantiated allegations against the Syrian regime that it used chemical weapons and mobilized its forces for a military strike, even prior to the UN commencing its investigation.

Ultimately, we know that both the Syrian regime and the US-funded militias are guilty of attacks against civilians. The Syrian civil war is being fought at the expense of Syrian families, workers, political activists, and the long legacy of Syrian cultural production.   It is still the people of Syria that possess the vision for a Syria free of autocracy and US imperialist interests, free of sectarianism and political repression, and their vision is the only true moral compass.

Syrian cultural and political activists have long been demonstrating their steadfastness against political repression and their commitment to self-determination. Time and time again they have denounced the destruction and devastation of the social and material fabric of Syria.  These are the voices absent from dominant narratives plastered across TV screens, radio broadcasts and newsstands.  Their messages remain draped across walls and buildings throughout Syrian towns and villages uplifting voices for change, dignity and liberation.

OBAMA AND THE LEGACY OF US IMPERIALISM

The Obama administration is anything but a passive observer in the deepening of sectarianism and destruction in Syria. For the divisions in Syria and the Arab World only serve to secure US interests as defined by an elite who only stands to profit from war and weaponry. Have we forgotten the infamous “White Powder” scene, where Collin Powell was oddly shaking a vial of biological agent at the UN Security Council as he applied pressure on the voting members to sanction US colonization of Iraq? It was then done under the pretext of preemptive strikes to eliminate the non-existent Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. Today, Obama perpetuates the same policies of the Bush Administration in deepening the sectarian division, arming and training one group to fight another and exporting the war from Iraq to Syria and to the region as a whole.

The US, along with its client monarchies who brutally rule Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, have reacted to the wave of anti-autocratic uprisings by expanding the Iraq conflict. Today, Iraq bears witness to over 700,000 dead as a result of the US blockade and more than 1 million murdered during the US occupation of Iraq. Today, car bombs and sectarian conflict continue to engulf the country. Obama is clearly perpetuating Bush’s policies by continuing the destabilization of Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, Libya, Lebanon and now Syria, all of whom are entrenched in a spiraling civil war that directly implicate the US militarily or politically.

THE BANKRUPTCY OF US MORALITY

On August 26, Secretary of State John Kerry stated that morality compels the US to act and attack Syria. We are left to ask, how would killing more Syrians with 300 cruise missiles decrease the bloodshed? While all atrocities are heinous and must be condemned, let us examine the moral standing of the US. Less than 10 days prior to the surfacing of the Syrian footage, US-funded Egyptian military were shooting unarmed civilians mobilizing throughout the streets. More than 1000 people were murdered in cold blood and Obama is yet to cut aid to Egypt in the hope of maintaining leverage over a continued peace treaty with Israel. In 2009, Israel was using phosphorous bombs on a besieged civilian population in Gaza, killing over 1,200 people and injuring approximately 10,000. Had it been about moral compulsion, we would have seen cruise missiles rain on the Knesset in Tel Aviv. In fact, Israel continues to bomb, kill, displace and steal Arab land on a daily basis while Obama’s policy is to increase financial and military support for Israel by billions of dollars. And let us not forget the US use of depleted uranium in Iraq. Iraqis continue to suffer from devastating mortality and birth defect rates as the ramifications of US war crimes and use of nuclear agents are inherited from one generation to the next. The contemporary record speaks for itself and we need not go back in history to mention the use of Agent Orange in Vietnam, the two Hydrogen Bombs dropped on Japan and the purposeful deployment of small pox to wipe out whole indigenous American nations.

The US allies itself with monarchies and military dictatorships that are growing increasingly worried by the wave of Arab uprisings and is attempting, in unsubtle ways, to divert the people’s energy into sectarian conflict along a Sunni-Shia divide. It is well documented that the US-funded Syrian rebels are linked to Al Qaeda, the same group the Obama administration uses as a pretext to maintain the march of death in Afghanistan. It is these same groups, with US training and funding, that are planting car bombs in the heart of Lebanon in an attempt to trigger another sectarian war and creating an internal quagmire, allowing for Israel to strike both Hezbollah and Iran in the future.

SELF-DETERMINATION NOT US IMPERIALISM

Join us in condemning in the strongest possible terms Obama’s complicity in these bloody wars and crimes against humanity. Join us in calling for an end to this madness, and end to the perpetual strengthening of theocratic, monarchical and Zionist regimes.

How many wars must be fought and how many people must die before the US ruling industries are forced to cede to the calls for freedom? Exactly fifty years ago-today, Martin Luther King called for ending US imperialist wars in Vietnam and the Indo-China regions. Today, and under the pretext of morality, Barak Obama is planning to expand the Syrian conflict by bombing Syria and in reaction to a massacre of Syrian civilians.

We stand in support of the self-determination of the Syrian people and as such, oppose all attacks on Syria! As Libya and Iraq have so sadly taught us, there is no bigger loss than the loss of sovereignty to empire.

We condemn any US involvement in the attacks on Syria!

We demand an end to US military, political and financial support of Israel, Arab dictatorships and repressive regimes!

Join us in the streets at protests planned across the US to stand against any attack on Syria!

No to war. No to occupation. No to US-Israeli hegemony in the Arab World.

SUPPORT THE ARAB PEOPLE’S REVOLUTION FOR SELF-DETERMINATION!
