America’s Obsession with Extramarital Affairs Are Used As Distractions to the War

Share/Bookmark//

Tiger Woods, Tiger Woods, Tiger Woods-What have you done?  Word of his sordid affairs is all anyone can talk about. From coast to coast  on every single local and national newscast, squeaky clean Tiger Woods cheating on his wife is the lead story. Sadly,we’ve seen this film way too many times. Whether it’s South Carolina governor  Mark Sanford, basketball great Kobe Bryant, former president Bill Clinton or Civil Rights leader Jesse Jackson, such sagas more often than not have me asking,  ‘What are ‘they’ trying to hide from us?’

All this Tiger Woods talk has me suspicious. Something is up.

It was just two days ago, that we had a sobering conversation with Congressman and former Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich about what he anticipated President Obama would say in his speech about increasing troops to Afghanistan. A very impassioned Kucinich noted that the anti-war’s collective upset to Obama’s proposal was a few steps too late. He reminded us that key hurdles were cleared a month ago in early October around the 8th anniversary of the Afghan War. According to Kucinich, on October 8th, the House  approved a bill that authorized the expenditure of $130 billion dollars for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  He noted that the democratic dominated Congress had already taken a pro-War stance and many in the anti-war peace Movement were quiet.

David Letterman's extramaritial affairs were big distractions from war issues

Folks may not recall this particular bill because back in early October while our government was pouring all this money into the war effort, the rest of the nation was besieged with endless news stories and punditry analysis about another sordid extramarital affair and its accompanying baggage including attempted extortion. This of course involved late night TV host David Letterman.

Instead of hearing from an enraged Kucinich, Barbara Lee or Texas Republican Ron Paul, we were subjected to all sorts experts taking up valuable airtime debating whether or not Letterman having sex with another consenting adult was appropriate.

Adding to this distraction was Barack Obama being awarded  the Noble Peace Prize the day after the October 8th date Kucinich referenced.  Ron Paul took some time out and expressed his concerns about the Noble Prize sitaution. he talked about it being a waste of time and distraction and that it awarding Obama such a prestigous award would not move him toward peace.

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbcDk-bNoc8&feature=player_embedded

But getting back to this country’s obsession with cheating spouses. They’ve long served as perfect covers for serious discussions about issues that have far-reaching impact on our lives. Last month it was Letterman, this month its Woods. The Woods story is now eclipsing important news coverage of the dozen or so anti-war protests yesterday from around the country. Instead of seeing or hearing man-on-the-street reports soliciting the opinions of young people about the escalation, we’re hearing them weigh in on Woods. Instead of hearing from celebrities like actor Danny Glover talking about his oppposition to the war, we’re hearing basketball great Charles Barkely‘s take on Tiger.

And don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting a conversation about Tiger Woods is an indication that one is un-intelligent or un-interested in more serious subjects. What I am cautioning us to keep in mind, that all this news coverage may be a distraction  to keep our eyes off some important balls. We have to ask ourselves; ‘What are we not talking about today?  Is it the President’s Job/Economic Summit being held today? Is it the debate to re-appoint Fed Chair Ben Bernacke? Is it the latest developments surrounding the Oscar Grant trial? Is it the controversy surrounding the conclusion of the mayoral election in Atlanta or the upcoming hotly contested run off mayoral election in Houston? As I’m typing this the Today Show is tripping all over itself to report how yet another woman is coming out to hold a press conference with famed lawyer Gloria Allred to possibly admit she had an affair. Her press conference comes at the heels of two other press conferences including one the other day where several law enforcement officials announced that they are not going to be further investigating Woods.

I’m thinking to myself, if such stories are being  done because the American public is hungry for salacious and intriguing reports, why not bring on journalist Jeremy Scahill of RebelReports.com to talk about how the worlds largest and most notorious private army Blackwater has been waging a secret War in Pakistan where they been assassinating and kidnapping people. If you wanna get heads turning and tongues wagging make note that this is happening on the watch of a President who promised rto abandon all those disturbing George Bush-Dick Cheney type tactics  that painted America in a bad light.  Secret war in Pakistan vs Tiger Woods being an undercover player? You decide what’s more important.

Ron Paul Kicked up dust around the escalation of the War in Afghanistan

Another glaring omission I see missing from national news coverage is yesterday’s Senate Armed Services Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee discussion on Afghanistan It was there that Congressional Black Caucus chair Barbara Lee and Progressive Caucus co-chair Lynn Woolsey were not allowed to speak  and express their staunch opposition to the Obama’s escalation. Fortunately Ron Paul got a chance to speak and really went in on the committee hitting them pretty hard, but that was barely covered. You can peep Paul weighing in on the C-Span video. He starts his round of questioning at 88.17 minutes into the hearing.

It’s interesting to note that it was just 3 weeks ago that Pittsburgh rapper Jasiri X hit us off with a song and video that raised similar concerns. He asked the question about whether or not we are staying up on the news. His video is a good note to end on and reflect.

President Obama & Jasiri X Come Together and Make a Dope Song ‘Ballers & Rappers’

Share/Bookmark//

Who said Hip Hop lost its creativity? Who said it was dead? Apparently no one bothered to give Pittsburgh artist Jasiri X with the memo. He’s been on fire, dropping a thematic song each week. Today he raises the stakes with an incredible song featuring Prez Obama.. If you can’t feel this, then unfollow me from Twitter and give us back your Hip Hop pass.. This is what we like to call ‘Pure Butta’..

Here’s what Jasiri has to say..;” President Barack Obama looking to boast his sagging approval rating teams up with conscious rapper Jasiri X on a song designed to change the media’s negative portrayal of Black man. Ballers and Rappers-the Season Finale of This Week With Jasiri X, was produced by Black Czer and directed by Paradise the Arkitech of X-Clan”

LYRICS
We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
Gun clappers or athlete that run faster
We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
trappers or actors a brothers runnin NASA
We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
we the masters of anything that u hand us
We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
this is a new chapter that’s called the Hearafter

no presidential pardon for the elements that charge us
with just being criminals because the television stars us
and cause you got fame don’t mean your relevant to march us
and since you not a leader than your negligence will harm us
and when we say a leader than our reference is a martyr
like nobody today can take a message from the father
impart it to our sons and give the lessons to our daughters
except Lebron Lil wayne or President Obama
nada we gotta a lot of activist and scholars
organizing the hood for the good and not the dollars
holla every unsung hero I wanna honor
from the Burg to Bahamas consider this good karma
Imma give ya light cause of the fact they want to bury us
CNN don’t know bout being Black in America
and Fox news is like non stop fools
that’s why I drop jewels cause Real Hip-Hop Rules

We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
Gun clappers or athlete that run faster
We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
trappers or actors a brothers runnin NASA
We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
we the masters of anything that u hand us
We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
this is a new chapter that’s called the Hearafter

we so much greater than how they portray us as
with more champions than Kobe and the Lakers have
but they always make us have guns mad faces and
disgraces and show the world our shame like a naked man
I hate it man so I guess I gotta take a stand
cause I rep the X like the flag from Jamaica man
and when I say Jamaica u think Usain Bolt
or a Dred that came by boat with Mary Jane to smoke
Like our brains are broke and we just came to joke
like new millennium slaves with the chains round our throats
but our own laziness it what I blame the most
we can’t achieve if we just believe in change and hope
find our lane and coast and remain the folks
that just slang the dope and only aim the toast
gang bang and boast
we need retrained and reeducated so we don’t get the same results

We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
Gun clappers or athlete that run faster
We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
trappers or actors a brothers runnin NASA
We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
we the masters of anything that u hand us
We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
this is a new chapter that’s called the Hearafter

We not just good at representing the hood
just because they show that life all night like Suge

We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers
Gun clappers or athlete that run faster
We not-Not just Ballers or Rappers

5 Videos to Make Your Day: Michael Franti, Jessica Celious, Def Jeff, The Poetess, Jasiri X

Share/Bookmark//

Hey World (Don’t Give Up Version) music video from the Bay Area’s Michael Franti from his new album ALL REBEL ROCKERS! The words and imagery are very moving... Gotta wonder why we don’t hear songs like this too much on our urban outlets especially since its a huge hit overseas.

This is one of my favorite artists-Jessica Celious out of Los Angeles. She’s a a dope soul artist who put out a good album called Melodies of Life. She has a lot of great songs on that joint and finally a nice video to go along with one of the album’s songs Love Crimes.. We need to pay attention to this sista and her work..

Jasiri X return with a dope video that tells the story of the connection between Afghanistan and war, leading to her intimate yet volatile relationship with the United States. Afghanistan (HerStory) is produced by Kai Roberts and directed by Paradise the Arkitech of X-Clan.

This is a classic joint from my homegirl the Poetess.. It was one of the first records that addressed the issue of domestic violence.. It features Poetess, Def Jam, Almighty from Body of Soul and Kool G Rap.. dope record.. Sorry the video is disabled.. its typical of these backward record companies.. One day they’ll get it.. Thats why it only has 3000 views

Since we rocked Love’s Hurt which was produced by Def Jeff, I figured lemme toss in one more video.. See if y’all recall this joint from back in the days  called ‘Black to the Future

LYRICS
Older woman cold from the hardness of life
the bloodiest of days and the harshest of night
all she knows is war like a Sargent with stripes
stinger missile point at the target and strike
she’s a pistol but never really had a main squeeze
nothing official like love that came with a ring
in fact the opposite men were abusive and dominant
boundaries they never honor it they just wanna conquer it
never hug her just hold her like hostages
so she’d bury they heads in the sand like ostriches
miss independent but she ran into a man who liked to hit women
thought he was big pimpin
and he could take her and rape her for some quick riches
this time she needed divine intervention
and she received it from another man that had a plan that was strategic
and said he preceded cause he believed in Jesus.
it was so good to hear it cause its what her spirit needed
and together they defeated broke that man to pieces cause he never had retreated
if time was like a picture she would forever freeze it
But after they victory she watched him leave quick
brokenhearted his promise he didn’t keep it
had another chick and they relationship was secret
he didn’t want her he only wanted her allegiance
seething she vowed to never let her heart take over her reason
as long as she was breathing
and got deep into religion kicked her heroin habit
her new apparel was the blackest of fabrics
and it covered her from head to toe even her eyes
like if you wanna know me you only seeing my mind
and they say time heals all wounds but they was lyin
cause guess who showed up and accused her of conspiring
to take him out both guns he was firing
her she go again another war that she fighting in
he said her religion went and made her to disciplined
heated up the heron and made her take hits with him
took away her longer drape put her in some lingerie
he said he just wanna lay pipe and he’ll be on his way
now she struggling emotions that she juggling
cause inside she felt she broke her religious covenant
but then this dude still with his other chick
he said she was so lubricated that he was sprung off it
he was loving it but then he got stuck in it
no rubber meant he got burnt now he suffering
but that meant she wasn’t hand cuffed by him
cause his other girl was getting all the punishment
she started rebuilding felt her disease healing
got back her strength her tank was refiling
then dude came back and said he was a changed cat
and anything that she wanted he could arrange that
he said him and the other girl was over
but really he went soft and he pulled out his solider
but that ain’t what he told her
the game he spit was bullsh*t she could tell by the odor
but when she said no the conversation got louder
he said she couldn’t stop him cause she didn’t have the power
it was either take the money or gunpowder
a nuclear shower she’d be easily devoured
but he was so young and her story was long
since way back in the days with Genghis khan
she never gave in she slayed men who thought they was strong
so she wasn’t shook when he claimed that he was bomb
she ‘s never been afraid of the grave and beyond
so she looked him in his eye and said it’s on
It’s Her Story

“Can’t” Knock The Hustle! – (Ignorant Blogs VS Jasiri X)

The real steroid abusing snitch Jose Canseco got embarrassed by being knocked out in the first round. Black Canseco knocked himself out with this lame attempt at journalism: http://www.hustleknockin.com/hustleknockin/2009/10/dear-debra-lee-open-letter-to-bet-song.html

What is going on nowadays with black blog spots who claim to be for a positive change in our community, but given an opportunity to support an artist who is the epitome of everything that they claim to promote, they choose to try to disrespect the effort while ignoring the obvious fact that Jasiri X is bringing positive change to the coon inspired, drug dealing, buffoonery that is being broad-casted as entertainment by today’s music industry.

First www.Bossip.com embarrassed themselves by totally missing the point Jasiri X’s song and video “Dear Debra” almost started a revolution on their website by posting Jasiri X’s video with the caption: Random Ridiculousness: “Dear Debra Lee” Video http://bossip.com/173449/random-ridiculousness-dear-debra-lee-video

Their arrogance and lack of research backfired with a fierce backlash from readers who pounded the site with support for Jasiri X – http://hiphopandpolitics.wordpress.com/2009/11/02/random-ridiculousness-bossip-urban-gossip-site-tries-to-clown-jasiri-x-video-get-backlash-from-their-readers/

That same day hustleknockin.com knocks Jasiri X for daring to Knock BET’s Hustle:

The only downside of this joint is that it comes from Jasiri X, an artist that almost no one outside the eastcoast underground’s ever heard of and probably never will“. Black Canseco

Really? I guess that we should immediately go back in time and delete history:

Jasiri X and President Barack Obama

Jasiri X and Russel Simmons

Jasiri X and Public Enemy #1 Chuck D

Had Mr. “Black Canseco” troubled himself to “Google” “Jasiri X” he would have found more than enough information for him to at least not play himself by exposing his lack of journalistic credibility.

This single post would have been enough to save his reputation as a credible blogger, instead it now makes his lame attempt to de-fame Jasiri X null and void and if he has a shred of integrity should send him into some serious soul searching:

Hip-hop Pioneers and taste-makers comments about Jasiri X’s new song/video Dear Debra

http://paradisegray.blogspot.com/2009/10/hip-hop-pioneers-and-taste-makers.html

Professional journalists and writers do research before they write ridiculous, opinion based, void of fact articles. That’s what gives them “credibility”, but I guess since hustleknockin.com is just a self published “blog” and not a respected source of legitimate news, “you get what you get“.

What bugs me out about these lapses of journalistic judgment, is that these are the same people who rant and rave against the very same music industry and artists that Jasiri X’s lyrics are attempting to balance out, but somehow they don’t value artists who are not enslaved/ bought and sold by the same system that they claim to fight against.

If you want Debra Lee or anyone part of the hiphop music media establishment to hear this, you’ve gotta be either part of the establishment“.

The success of this song/video has nothing to do with someone from BET hearing it, BET is a corporation owned and operated by Viacom. One song no matter how great will not change them. However it is part of a on going movement of music by a larger group of artists who offer consumers an alternative to the offerings of the artists that you named.

“This would be a much more powerful message if it came from Rawse, The Roots, or Lil Wayne or Gucci Mane“.

Would the book “Knock the Hustle” be a more powerful message if it was written by Jeff Chang, Kevin Powell or Davey D?

As if the only way people should respect good music and new artists should be if they have the “stamp of approval” from the very same people who sponsor the “death-style” that has been rammed down our throats as Hip-hop for decades.

Sorry Mr. Canseco, I come from a time before A&R’s and labels dictated what Hip-hop was, if that is the only downside that you see in Jasiri X, I can live with that because that leaves plenty of upside!

Please hate on our new video “Beware Young Girl

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LXaAuC3Yr8

It explores the disturbing trend of horrific violence and injustice towards women. You wont see your industry boys make one like this either:

Blackface is the New Black

RealTalkXpress-JasiriX-450

Share/Bookmark//

You ever see that blog Stuff White People Like? Well, blackface should most definitely be on that list. For whatever reason some whites love to paint their faces black and then express profound shock when black people get offended. Now to be fair, Asians will get in on the foolishness as well. Which makes me wonder how in 2009 seemingly intelligent people can be so offensive yet “oblivious” at the same time.

In the recent high profile incident of blackface on a variety show in Australia, the offending party, who referred to themselves as the “Jackson Jive” were all medical doctors. And, I’m sure the people who run French Vogue are experienced professionals. My brother Paradise just reminded me about Halloween coming up and how each year some college fraternity throws a blackface bash whose pictures always seem to make it to the latest social networking site.

Which leads me to the million dollar question, Why? Can we just say it’s racism and close the case? Is it maybe some deep seeded psychological problem? I can tell you one thing, it damn sure ain’t funny. The country is already divided and the fire of hate is being fed 24-7 by the right wing flunkies at Fox News. Why throw a bucket of gasoline on it just to amuse yourself and get a few chuckles form your friends. Is it really worth a potential beat-down if you run into the wrong person? Plus the way things tend to resurface on the internet that blackface may soon become permanent.

The Only Color That Matters Is Green-(World Premier)

Jasiri X and Paradise of X-Clanare two of my favorite cats in the world. First, they are dedicated to the cause of trying to uplift our folks. Two, they stay grinding. Meaning they are constantly looking for new ways to educate, entertain and enlighten. Three, they and the rest of  the One Hood crew stick together like family..  When I went to Pittsburgh I saw how they were keeping the essence of Hip Hop together, by taken whatever situation that was tossed to them and flipping it..

On Friday Sept 25th, we found ourselves unable to join the G-20 protest march because of police barricades. Instead of sitting around and complaining, Paradise and his crew member Sherman took their cameras and decided to make the thousands of police that were on hand a backdrop for a music video.  It certainly caught the police off guard , but it made perfect sense. Its our tax payer money and our streets. Might as well put that 18 million bucks to good use..

The song says it all ‘The Only Color that Matters is Green’  . Enjoy the video..
