With each passing day more and more jerks step out the woodwork around the Trayvon Martin case. . For example, we had talk show host Larry Elders, a Black man yapping away defending George Zimmerman, the wannabe cop who decided he wanted to hunt down and shoot an unarmed, law-abiding Trayvon Martin.
We shouldn’t be surprised because Elders is the type of brother who as my friend George Galvis noted.. May be Black or Brown but functions white... meaning, he has brought into lots of aspects of white supremacy..He’s that type of guy..
I thought it was interesting he was defending Zimmerman knowing that good ole George has a domestic violence record… but hey what do i know?
I bring up Elder for another reason…because he’s a Libertarian..same as presidential candidate Ron Paul and folks need to fully understand the full extent of their thinking-Might makes Right..
Elders said the FBI need to investigate to keep up appearances… He later compared the Trayvon situation with that of subway vigilante Bernard Goetz who shot 4 Black men on a subway with an unlicensed handgun 25-30 years ago.. For those who don’t recall Goetz said he was being robbed..on other hand, Zimmerman went looking for Martin who did nothing of a sort… Anyway.. you can peep the interview here..

Not to be out down we have long time news personality Geraldo Rivera (real name Gerry Rivers) who wanted to offer up some sound parental advice to Black and Latino parents… This morning Geraldo tweeted the following;
“Trayvon killed by a jerk w a gun but black & Latino parents have to drill into kids heads: a hoodie is like a sign: shoot or stop & frisk me”
The flaws in that argument should be clear as day, but for those who somehow are thinking, oh yeah.. if only Black men would pull their pants up and stop wearing hoodies, we wouldn’t be shot by racist clowns like Zimmerman...
I hit Geraldo back and reminded him of a few things.. First, 9-year-old Brisenia Flores was shot in Arizona by a wannabe border patrol agent..who busted into her house thinking her family were undocumented.. The father Raul wasn’t wearing a hoodie in the 100 degree Arizona sun when he was shot to death, nor was his precious daughter…
I also reminded Geraldo that 7-year-old Aiyanna Stanley-Jones from Detroit wasn’t wearing a hoodie as she slept next to her grandma when cops busted up in her house and shot her in her sleep.
I also reminded him that last year in New York City where Stop and Frisk policies are in effect, that over 680 thousand people were stopped in the streets and frisked by police officers who ‘suspected’ they had guns..less than 1% of those stops netted anything.. That’s why we had folks like educator Cornel West and organizer Carl Dix and lots of other folks protesting the policy… Out of the 680k stopped over 80% were Black and Brown men..
The shows that I’ve done on this topic garnered the following info from ACLU lawyers..According to NYPD they look for people who make furtive movements which is subjective.. Some cops consider it furtive if you look at them as they drive by.. Some say its furtive when you look away.. Still others consider it furtive if you start scratching ..they say your acting nervous… Translation; Hoodie or not you’re gonna get stopped and frisked..but lets not digress.. lets ask ourselves why are they doing an action that yields such a low return?
Back to Geraldo and his parental advice, I asked him if he’d prefer during the winter months or rainy days which was the case for Trayvon, that these Black and Brown men wear baseball caps instead, or ski masks? Perhaps a Yamaka, Turpin or a big ole Abe Lincoln style top hat..
Bottom line Geraldo is making the case that it’s up to Black and Brown men to make the police feel safe.. not the other way around.. What a damn idiot..
Two Sellouts rushing to the aid of a racist dog…
These fools are just as dangerous as George Zimmerman! It’s bad enough we have to warn our young Black males about being a ‘threat’ to larger society but we also have to worry about those in the minority class who will justify this perceived threat to appease the ‘Massa’! Clowns. I hope they come across a George Zimmerman on a dark street on night in their gated communities!
Sadly, I feel Geraldo right! In this country, to protect ourselves, we have to make racists, predisposed to suspecting black men as dangerous, threatening, and up to no good feel as safe as possible to make it home. The same way I was warned in the 80’s not to wear any blue or red colors to make the wrong brother think I was in a gang, we have to let our young black men now know: look as less threatening as possible to the police and white people to survive. It shouldn’t be that way, but sadly that’s how we have live to stay alive out there.
These media created Vampire WHORES, are doing what they were created to do.They try to pass themselves off as articulate, voices of common sense,good taste and reasoned logic. Neither one of them would be in the positions they are in if the the right wing,didn’t have a use for them.Gerry is a zionist clown,who when it suites him is Puerto Rican. Elders is just another amerikkkan negrobot,with nothing noteable about any of his pronouncements on any topic.
For Anthony aka Mr No Nuts…. You are not worth an educated answer, as a dolphin would not try and educate a tuna. And you seem to have the intelligence of a goldfish, and the heart of a chihuahua. This is from a concerned London born brother. So, your suggestion is that i should teach my 15 year old boy to be scared and subservient like you? Is that what you teach your children? You are an intellectual coward and bum. I wont even wish you well, as you dont even wish your own well. You are the reason these cops and others who arent even in ‘authority’ walk around ready to profile and get wild on us. You are the reason a young king like Trayvon is dead. Cos you teach your kids to have no heart. Well dont expect the rest of us to follow your punk lead. You must be one of them BOULE frat men, and even they are not happy. Even Obama had something to say, and you want to tell us we should make the cops feel better? Check yourself before making such disgusting comments. Big ups always to Davey D……. Peace to the family of all who suffer at hands of the Police and government, black and white.
@. Darkoverlord_Definer
You are right about Geraldo claiming whatever heritage he has when it suits him. For example, during his coverage of the OJ Simpson trial, he angered alot of black people. About a year after the verdict he was interviewed by Tavis Smiley(then on BET) and showed a family photograph of his black grandmother and other black relatives.
1) Why is it okay for *white* people to wear hoodies, but not people of color?
One of my housemates is a white female UC Berkeley Law School grad attorney — who was also accepted to, but *turned down*, Harvard and Stanford. She felt that the Berkeley-Oakland-San Francisco sociopolitical, socio-intellectual and multicultural environment had a *lot* more to offer than the relatively isolated, not nearly as enriching, Harvard or Stanford, Cambridge or Palo Alto, environment. Anyway, unless she has to *formally* meet with clients or appear in court (and she practices in the *federal* courts), she wears a hoodie (and typically jeans) everyday to her office suite. Hey, it’s the Bay Area, for those workplaces that ‘celebrate’ casual attire (like Steve Jobs always wore). On those workdays, you would never even *guess* that she is an attorney. No one has ever stopped, let alone even questioned, her — wearing a hoodie and jeans — even going into her office building, and into its shiny brass doors & mirrored elevators.
2) A very, very similar thing that happened to Trayvon almost happened (gun and all) to me one time (just minding my own business too) — in a univeristy residential community — and *I*, casually but neatly dressed, wasn’t even wearing a hoodie.
3) Monique Woods (March 23 at 10:09 am): “…we also have to worry about those in the minority class who will justify this perceived threat to appease the ‘Massa’! Clowns.”
You’re absolutely right, Monique.
Of course, those negroes or latinegroes have decided and made their life, or old age, decisions to “just get paid!” by *sucking up to* ‘Massa’ In the war against racism; either all their careers or later in their old age, they decided to joined the other side! Juan Williams (apparently retired/semi-retired) is another one — and that’s why The Man/’Massa’ generally puts those kinds of negroes all over the PBS pundit-panel shows!
None other than Harvard-appointed C.N.I.C. & Professor Henry Louis Gates (often known as “Skip” Gates) — always playing up to ‘Massa’ — used to have more or less the same kind of attitude that Larry Elders and Geraldo Rivera have — although Gates doesn’t try to be quite as purposely obnoxious (i.e., slobberingly slavish) as Larry Elders — and Gates used to commonly poo-hoo Black people who complained about racial profiling and police abuse. Skip Gates was — maybe still is — kind of like the ‘Larry Elders’ of academia — that is, until Skip Gates had *his* little racial profiling *abuse* run-in at the hands of the cops in his very own home in Cambridge, Mass., where Harvard is located, primarily at the hands of a Sgt. _JIM CROWley_! You can’t *make* that sh*t up…
So, I was actually very *GLAD* when such racial profiling abuse *did* happen to to Skip Gates — although it was wrong that it happened (along with all the usual police lies). He probably *would* have been shot and killed, or at least beaten, or sustain-tasered, if he hadn’t been a Harvard professor. Gates didn’t pursue a rightful and legitimate lawsuit for the racial abuse because he wanted to preserve his Black-Anglo-Saxon privileges and program commissions with PBS — Gates given numerous high-profile, academically and intellectually flawed documentary and PBS “specials” commissions, but Harvard and white society doesn’t care about low academic standards when it comes to someone “The Man” can *use* in a particular position on general or timely occasions!
Skip Gates — the head of Harvard’s _African American_ *and* _African_ Studies Departments — even once tried (just two or three years ago) to ‘excuse’ American *slavery*(!!!) — the owning and working-to-or-until-death of millions upon millions of generations upon generations of human beings, parents divided from children, and brothers & sisters, and extended families divided from each other — Constitutionally and otherwise *legally protected* by _the United States government_ — for some 250 years — as well as another 100 years of *official* Jim Crow apartheid, peonage slavery, and voting rights denial or disenfranchisement (the latter being renewed under “The New Jim Crow”, as described in Michelle Alexanders’s book of the same name) — by his criticizing African Americans for ‘PLAYING THE SLAVERY BLAME-GAME’!!! As, I said, you can’t *make* that sh*t up…
Skip Gates also criticizes the concept of Reparations for CENTURIES of Black, free labor to this country — slavery legally protected by the *U.S.* government — and made (along with Chinese and Latino slave/semi-slave labor) the founding and early wealth of the United States, many American corporations, and even some American colleges/universities, possible. But, you can *BET* that Gates *didn’t/doesn’t* oppose Reparations for the Jews and to Israel — even by the *U.S.* — and the U.S.’s $10 BILLION PER YEAR, *EVERY* YEAR of direct & indirect foreign financial aid to Israel (only some 4.5 million ideologically racist Euro-Western colonial Jews there) — more than to African Americans, or Native Americans, right here in the U.S. — more than to the entire continent of Africa (about 750-800 million people!). And the U.S. _didn’t even perpetrate_ the Jewish holocaust — but the U.S. doesn’t even want to provide Reparations for the holocausts the U.S. *did* perpetrate.
As one article said, “Gates’s critics say he’s a provocateur and publicity hound, stretched too thin and puffed up by his celebrity friends.” Undoubtedly that’s true of Larry Elders and Gerry Rivers (Geraldo Rivera) who’ve otherwise been out of the news for a long while — until now.
Even when the 60 year-old Skip Gates showed the cops his driver’s license, his *Harvard* faculty ID (about the right age for a senior professor), his mail, and his familty photos on the wall of his living room, the cops *still* didn’t want to believe him and just say, “Sorry to interrupt you today, Professor Gates, we were just following up on a call about a possible break-in.” (That’s what the cops would have told a *white* professor anywhere, let alone at Harvard.)
The white female 911 caller, in the Gates incident, was actually more professional than the cops(!!) — she didn’t try to distort or exaggerate her observation: she just reported a gentleman with suitcases — she didn’t even say he was Black — who might have been returning from a trip and just been locked out of his house or his front door might have been jammed [especially after someone had been gone for so long, or because it occasionally sticks in warmer daytime temperature, or if any sun on it caused a slight expansion]. The police — the second they saw he was Black — verbally turned the suitcases into one or more *”backpacks”* being used by “a Black man breaking in the [*front*] door to rob the house” [in sunny mid-day view of all of Gates’ neighbors and neighborhood passers-by, like the 911 caller], as well as various other police distortions, then racially harassed Skip Gates.
A Black male academic and famous writer was racially profiled, and the campus police called, at U.C. Berkeley for his being at the Strawberry Canyon swimming pool! (Undoubtedly, he wasn’t with any white person/people.) And I’m sure such things have happened to Black undergrads, to grad students, to doctoral students, to professors and other academics, more than once in Berkeley and on many American university campuses. And he wasn’t wearing a hoodie. Although, when that happens it doesn’t matter *what* you’re wearing or even how well you talk. Oh, well…, what did Malcolm X say that racist white people call a Black person with a PhD? (“A nigger!”)
Don’t insult Uncle Tom by comparing him to Larry Elder
I never gave Elder or Rivera the time of day, as they are not worth it – don’t even get me started on Skip Gates – a man who pissed off Ethiopian royalty while doing a documentary on Ancient Africa, by demanding to see the Ark of the Covenant – not even every Ethiopian priest is allowed to see it; a man who just couldn’t believe that the MOORS, a group of ANCIENT AFRICANS set up the first and oldest university in Spain, the UNIVERSITY OF SANKORE; an idiot who twisted the historical realities of the MAAFA just to gain points with those upholding the status quo; an idiot who tried to challenge the truth of what the late Dr. John Henrick Clarke brought up on that subject. . .SMGDH
Secondly, as far as those blaming the hoodie on Trayvon’s murder, and not the racist imbecile Zimmerman who committed the murder, let me ask this:
1)So by that “logic”, MARK ZUCKERBERG, and JUSTIN BEIBER should be murdered, too, right???? They wear hoodies, too, RIGHT????Oh wait – if those two were murdered, then you’d give a damn, right???? Hmmmmmm. . . . . .the depth of “human” (if you can even call it that) stupidity and insanity seems to go deeper than the Marianas Trench and that’s a damn shame; if Bieber was killed, the groundswell that would ensue and the amout of people who would be demanding justice and protesting would be instant and massive – when Bieber can actually play and perform like STEVIE WONDER, PRINCE, and EARTH, WIND, and FIRE, then I’ll actually give a damn about him; until then, he’s just another “talented” performer who gets a pass because of his looks and minimal musical abilities that some $-hungry bean counter is using as a cash cow;
*Trayvon was wearing a hoodie BECAUSE IT WAS RAINING!!!!!!!!!!* He was carrying an ICED TEA and a BAG OF SKITTLES – last time I checked, those are not concealed weapons, but (Junk)FOOD & DRINK, are they not??? Then again, after seeing what went down in Zanesville, and several other historical instances, it is no surprise the racism that zimmerman and many others have;
2)Using the hoodie justification is just like saying that a Woman wearing sexy clothes deserves to be raped – yes, I took it there!!!! A Woman wearing sexy clothes is not a justificiation for rape, and neither is wearing a hoodie justification for being shot or suspected as a delinquent by the police;
3)Black Men and Women can be harrased and brutalized by the authorities or others wanting to harm them REGARDLESS of what they have on – what were DR. KING and MALCOLM X wearing when they were shot? Suits!
Let’s deal with the reality of this situation – george zimmerman (and no, I’m NOT punctuating his name for obvious reasons) and his racist, misguided, imbecilic world view on Black Males and Black people, and the failure of the Sanford PD to proceed intelligently and rightly, is the reason why Travyon is 6-feet under, and NOT the fact that Trayvon wore a hoodie. RIP Trayvon and may the offender of this heinous crime be hit with the fullest extent of what’s coming to them!
.
Critical Eye (March 24 at 7:12am) “Using the hoodie justification is just like saying that a Woman wearing sexy clothes deserves to be raped”
*EXCELLENT*, *EXCELLENT* POINT(!!), Critical Eye — and, yes, you do have one (and undoubtedly two)!!
——————
Critical Eye: ” what were DR. KING and MALCOLM X wearing when they were shot? Suits!”
In fact, I was once — while wearing a *suit*, dress shoes, a dress shirt and tie — detained, harassed and threatened with arrest, as “a suspicious person”, by white campus cops on the grounds of a prestigious, overhwhelmingly white, Midwestern university campus. I was walking a bit around campus — during daytime hours — while I was waiting to go to a scheduled campus appointment. And I had the *name* of the campus official, the building, the office and the exact time of the appointment where I was supposed to meet him. The cops could have just then let me go or easily, directly or through their headquarters, just contacted the campus official’s office that I was supposed to meet at and asked him or his secretary if what I said was true! I dared the cops to arrest me — to arrest one of the very few Black people on campus (not in custodial, cafeteria or grounds work) — in the middle of the day — wearing a *suit*!! After a while of verbal back-&-forth, they finally let me go, as I actually made fun of them.
(Meanwhile, it was the white graduate students — _the ones with the keys_ to their campus buildings and campus building storage rooms — who were ripping off things like unused desks, and unused portable air-conditioners, and unused vacuum cleaners, and whatever else that was in storage, and sometimes even not in storage, that they wanted to use in their off-campus apartments! It was sometimes affluent or rich white kids who would often steal food items — for the *fun* of it — from the campus restaurants and cafes. And, of course, it was campus frat boys who would try to get campus coeds intoxicated on party punch, using alcohol harder to taste and masked by strong fruit juice and soda, and then “acquaintance rape” the coeds who got sufficiently drunk or passed out. This so, while the campus cops looked at every Black plus-or-minus 20-something who walked across campus as a potential thief — or *worse*.)
Later, I reported the police abuse to someone who, thankfully, was a Black dean (and thankfully a cool one at that, *not* some Skip Gates type of Black-Angro-Saxon Neegro), who let it be known to the few other campus Black officials, and reported it to his superiors (probably a vice-chancellor), who by the end of the process then forced the entire campus police department to undergo new training, and, in the meantime, I got an official letter of apology from the university. Of course, no campus police were fired (that I know of), but cops, from the captain on down, just *hate* to be forced to do *anything* — even administratively, let alone an enitre change in their training about how they approach people of color — or just even have hours (and hours) of their (the captain/cops) time taken up — in response to any of their subordinate’s/co-workers misconduct. But, then, all the other cops, and the captain, would be upset at the abusive cops for what the abusive consequently forced the entire campus police department to go through over a Black guy in a *suit*: like, ‘Sh*t, now we all have to go through some goddamn sensitivity training! He doesn’t even have a criminal record, damnit! Next time we all stick to harassing Black guys in baggy, sloppy clothes!’
The Black dean said that he was happy that I was actually willing to write all the letters and supporting documentation to file the discrimination harassment grievance because it’s happened to other Black people on campus. Yet, he said, most Blacks on campus don’t want to go through all the grievance documentation because it’s so time-consuming and the campus police department (like any others), of course, would try to do a lot of foot-dragging and try to wait you out, or maybe such Blacks worry about getting the label “Black troublemaker”, and worry about how their white bosses (administrative or academic superiors) might respond.
But I at least wanted to produce what I call a good “dirty file” on the cops that the various campus departments would have to keep *forever* for legal reasons. (The campus cops and vice-chancellor wouldn’t even be able to claim that they “lost [my] letters/grievance”, because I would send by registered mail multiple copies to several campus officials at once, as well as, of course, keep copies of everything I produced.) I’ve learned to treat myself _just as importantly as white people treat themselves_ — and I’ve learned, being around “formally, advanced educated” white people, that when “advanced educated,” white people are aggrieved by something, or someone in an official or staff capacity, they start writing formal letters to various officials and producing documentation — even if i *might* not always get exactly the same results.
You don’t know…: someone’s white boss might have just not liked the white person who offended *you*, and your grievance letter/documentation makes a great excuse for that boss to penalize the white person who offended you; or (as with George Zimmerman) that white person may have just become too much of a liability embarrassment to not do something about. And Zimmerman — turns out that it’s *GEORGE ZIMMERMAN* who has the shakey background and is the shadey character (while Trayvon Milton’s reputation was locally stellar!) — that’s only come to public light because of all the protests. Geoge Zimmerman, and the refusal of the police department to arrest him, and the refusal of the D.A. and, failing that, the Florida Attorney General to yet prosecute him, has now become AN INTERNATIONAL EMBARRASSMENT TO THE UNITED STATES!! People all over the world are in sheer disbelief!! — about “The World’s Greatest Democracy!” The Taliban, and so-called “al-Qaeda”, and Ahmadinejad can say, “You *see*!?…This is what we’ve been telling you about how the United States callously treats people of color! — who’s lives obviously don’t mean anything to the state.” Why do you think that Obama went on TV about it?: so would have McCain! It wasn’t for we African Americans: it was to try to save THE INTERNATIONAL REPUTATION OF THE UNITED STATES!
Has Obama *ever* otherwise shown that he particularly cares about Black America?
Thanks, Joseph. With all due respect to Obama, I don’t recall him saying that, “America must do some soul searching” when Sean Bell & Oscar Grant were killed-and I don’t recall a prosecution of the officer who profiled Dr. Skip Gates being handed out – instead, the M.O. was to sit back with said officer, and Dr. Gates, and to toss back some brew. Sorry, not buying that-I’m not into buying bridges on the moon, catch my drift???? This statement is an effort to save a red, white, and blue face to the rest of the world – and yet, the tricolor powers-that-be still have the gall to be the coffee pot calling the kettle black, singling out the atrocities that other countries have committed, while at the same time REFUSING to take a look at the eagle in the mirror, or better yet a ravenous buzzard. RIP Trayvon, Oscar Grant, and all others shot down worse than put-down dogs.
SUPER PISSED AS A BLACK MAN..http://www.justintimemusic.net/music.html
Why are people twisting Rivera’s words though like we haven’t heard them before? If you are a black male growing up in the US, there are certain things your parents are going to warn you of. “Don’t be smoking weed with your white friends thinking that its cool; your ass is getting in trouble, not them….. don’t wear your pants baggy don’t wear hoodies don’t run around in that neighborhood….etc etc.” It’s for their safety, and if you don’t acknowledge that, then you are doing a disservice to black and brown teenage men everywhere. Rivera is not “victim blaming.” He acknowledges that the blame lay principally with American society for thinking that way, for targeting our boys–but at the end of the day, when I have a son, I’ma tell him the same shit because I do not have the same faith or optimism some of you seem to have in white America. We can make improvements in trying to fundamentally change this country’s racism, but we still have to face the reality.
By the way, here is an actually study done from Stanford last year that I think is pertinent to this conversation:
“ASSIGNING RACE: WHEN THE CLOTHES CAN MAKE THE MAN
Determining a person’s race is generally considered as straightforward as scanning for physical cues such as skin tone, hair color and other facial features. However, an interdisciplinary team of researchers recently found that the perception of race can be altered by signals of social status as simple as the clothes a person wears.”
https://iriss.stanford.edu/news/assigning-race-when-clothes-can-make-man
Not saying it’s morally right, it isn’t, we know that. But to deny that it happens is foolish.
RE: Young Heaux (March 26 at 12:44 pm).
Young Heaux YOU’RE EITHER A **COP** OR AN **IDIOT**!! — ALTHOUGH THAT’S OFTEN A REDUNDANCY.
THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL EXAMPLES GIVEN, OF LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF THOUSAND MORE (LIKE THE BLACK AND BROWN VICTIMS OF “STOP & FRISK” IN NYC ALONE!)…
THAT IT REALLY DOESN’T MATTER *WHAT* YOU WERE IF YOU’RE *BLACK* OR *BROWN* — AND SOMETIMES EVEN ASIAN.
BUT SINCE YOU’RE AT LEAST *POSING* AS “BLACK”, HERE’S A FEW OTHER THINGS YOU CAN TELL YOUR ” WHEN [YOU] HAVE A SON” TO KEEP HIIM OUT OF TROUBLE:
TELL HIIM NEVER TO BACK-SASS ANY WHITE PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE WRONG;
TELL HIM TO STEP OFF THE SIDEWALK WHEN WHITE PEOPLE ARE WALKING BY;
TELL HIM TO ALWAYS CRISPLY SAY *”YES SIR”* OR *”YES M’AM”* WHEN A WHITE PERSON TELLS HIM TO DO ANYTHING;
TELL HIM TO NEVER CALL A WHITE PERSON BY THEIR FIRST NAME;
TELL HIM TO ALWAYS OBEY THE POLICE — AGAIN, ALWAYS CRISPLY SAYING *”YES SIR”* OR *”YES M’AM”* — WHEN THE POLICE WANT TO SEARCH YOUR HOME OR CAR WITHOUT A WARRANT;
TELL HIM TO GIVE UP HIS SEAT RIGHT AWAY ON THE BUS OR SUBWAY IF A WHITE PERSON NEEDS IT;
TELL HIM TO ALWAYS TAKE OFF HIS HAT IN THE PRESENCE OF A WHITE PERSON;
TELL HIM NOT TO BACK-SASS HIS TEACHERS IF THEY GIVE HIM A “B” FOR “A” WORK — OR IF THEY TEACH THAT BLACK PEOPLE HAVE REALLY CONTRIBUTED NOTHING TO HUMAN CIVILIZATION OR AMERICAN HISTORY;
TELL HIM NO TALKING IN BLACK ENGLISH OR PHRASES, NO MATTER THAT IT SETS THE PACE FOR FOR WHAT’S CONSIDERED COOL IN AMERICA — EVEN IF JIM LEHRER HAD USED WORDS LIKE “DISS” ON CHARLIE ROSE HAS SAID “IT’S ALL GGOOODD…” ON HIS PBS SHOW;
TELL HIM NOT TO GIVE HIS KIDS ANY “BLACK” NAMES, LIKE DEMETRIUS, OR ALPHONSO, OR DENZEL, OR DARNELL, OR RAKIM, OR ABDUL — OR YOU *KNOW* MALCOLM IS *OUT* — OR LAKEISHA, OR LAWANDA, OR KENARIA, OR RASHIDA — STICK TO FILBERT OR KIP OR HEATHER, OR SUSIE, OR MARY ANNE,
TELL HIM, WHEN HE’S OLD ENOUGH, TO NEVER DRIVE A CAR THAT’S ‘TOO OLD’ OR ‘TOO NEW’ OR ‘TOO FANCY’ (TELL HIM TO DRIVE A 6 YR-OLD FORD ESCORT OR SOMETHING);
TELL HIIM NEVER PRESUME TO MOVE INTO A PREDOMINANTLY WHITE UNIVERSITY NEIGHBORHOOD IN A CITY WHERE HE MIGHT GO OFF TO COLLEGE, JUST BECAUSE THAT’S THE NEIGHBORHOOD THAT’S AROUND THE UNIVERSITY, AND FOR SAKE OF CONVENIENCE TO BE ABLE TO WALK OR RIDE HIS BICYCLE TO SCHOOL;
TELL HIM NEVER TO GO TO ANY OPERAS BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE’LL STICK OUT LIKE A SORE THUMB, AND THAT’S JUST *BEGGING* FOR TROUBLE;
IF YOUR SON GRADUATES FROM COLLEGE, TELL HIM TO NEVER ACT ‘TOO SMART’/UPPITY;
TELL HIM NOT TO STAND UP FOR *HIS* CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS JUST BECAUSE WHITE PEOPLE GET, OR WANT TO STAND UP FOR, THEIRS;
TELL HIM TO BOW ‘N SCRAPE AND STEP ‘N FETCH AND CLUTCH HIS HAT GRATEFULLY IN HIS HANDS — ALWAYS EVER-GRATEFUL AND ALWAYS EVER-LOYAL TO ‘MASSA’;
TELL HIM THAT A BLACK PERSON HAS NO RIGHTS THAT A WHITE PERSON IS BOUND TO RESPECT;
AND TELL HIM TO BE JUST LIKE LARRY ELDERS, OR JUAN WILLIAMS, OR JOHN MCWHORTER, OR ARMSTRONG WILLIAMS, OR SHELBY STEELE, OR THE SUPREME COURT’S CLARENCE THOMAS, OR ANY OF THOSE OTHER *WHITE-SUPREMACIST* SELL-OUT NEEGROES;
THESE ARE BUT A *FEW* THINGS YOU SHOULD TELL YOUR FUTURE SON, OKAY?;
TELL HIM THAT ALL THESE THINGS ARE FOR HIS SAFETY.
IN OTHER WORDS, TELL HIM TO BE A *GOOD* L’IL SAMBO — JUST LIKE HIS *DAD* “Young Heaux” — AND HE’LL BE ALRIGHT.
MORE FROM THE VERY ‘FERTILE’ (fertilized with sh*t), so-called, ‘MIND’ OF “Young Heaux” (March 26 at 12:54 pm): “By the way, here is an actually study done from Stanford last year that I think is pertinent to this conversation: ASSIGNING RACE: WHEN THE CLOTHES CAN MAKE THE MAN.”
First of all, there is no such biological thing as “race” or “races”.
Race in the United States was *invented* by American capitalism — actually by a capitalist corporation — called the Virginia Colony Corporation — in the 17th century Virginia colony in the U.S. under colonial laws. (Ref. “The Rules of Racialization: Class, Identity, Governnance”, by Steve Martinot — also author of “The Machinery of Whiteness: Studies in the Structure of Racialization” — as well as numerous writings on racialization and whiteness studies. Check at Amazon.com for more information and reviews.)
Second, where was this study “done” — at Stanford’s *HOOVER INSTITUTION* [generally very conservative]?
Semi-phonetic typo correction:
Young Heaux YOU’RE EITHER A **COP** OR AN **IDIOT**!! — ALTHOUGH THAT’S OFTEN A REDUNDANCY.
THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL EXAMPLES GIVEN, OF LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF THOUSAND MORE (LIKE THE BLACK AND BROWN VICTIMS OF “STOP & FRISK” IN NYC ALONE!)…
THAT IT REALLY DOESN’T MATTER *WHAT* YOU _WEAR_ IF YOU’RE *BLACK* OR *BROWN* — AND SOMETIMES EVEN ASIAN.
Joseph from Berkeley:
“First of all, there is no such biological thing as “race” or “races”.”
What about the study made you think it (or I) suggested race was biological? It is clearly a social construction, which is why they examine how clothes and status play a role in how people *perceive* race.
The rest of your response is a bit of an overreaction.
In fact, I didn’t read the majority of it once I gathered it was so emotionally charged and confrontational. Breathe homie.
Yo, “Young Heaux” (March 26 at 8:40 pm)!:
I don’t discourse with *ffooolls*…: I make *ffun* of them.
Now, ain’t you got some’n ta go step-‘n-ffetch fo’ ole mmassa…?
.
For anyone with a brain (clearly not “Young Heaux”, a cop, or an *idiot* [also see, cop], or a poser, or all three!), ‘race’ in the U.S. was *not* primarily — and *not* originally — “a social construct”: it was, for most of the history of the U.S., primarily a _*LEGAL*_ construct.
( (Ref. “The Rules of Racialization: Class, Identity, Governnance”, by Steve Martinot)
EXCERPTS FROM THE LATINO COMMUNITY / PRESS:
From the Latino organization “Presente” at their website:
GERALDO: HOODIES DON’T KILL
Geraldo Rivera made a reckless statement on national television about the killing of Trayvon Martin. As one of the leading Latino journalists in the country, Geraldo should immediately apologize and set the record straight.
While Trayvon’s parents and the entire country are clamoring for justice, demanding the immediate arrest of Zimmerman, who is still free, Mr. Rivera have decided to divert our attention away form the sad truth at core of this national tragedy: an innocent young man was killed in cold blood – not for wearing a hoodie – but for being a Black young man.
Blaming this tragedy on an article of clothing that is widely worn in this country (even by Geraldo himself) is irresponsible and works against those of us who are trying to teach our children that society needs to treat them with respect.
This moment offers us an opportunity to stand up for young men of color and to demand that their humanity be valued. Rather than perpetuate the stereotypes against young men of color, Geraldo can use his privilege as a public person and journalist to talk less about hoodies and more about how racism endangers our children.
Racism is at the center of this tragic incident. When Zimmerman described Trayvon to the police he referred first and foremost to his race, not to his hoodie: “he has his hand in his waistband. He’s a black male.” Martin was on a cell phone call with his girlfriend moments before his death, and she reported him saying that he put his hoodie up because Zimmerman had been following him.
Geraldo should have put the blame where it belongs – on Zimmerman and the gun-crazed and racist culture that creates and enables this violence. Instead, his comments divert from real tragedy in the name of sensationalist journalism.
Tell Geraldo Rivera to apologize to Trayvon’s family and focus instead on reporting accurately about why Trayvon Martin was killed.

The death of Trayvon Martin has sent racial shock-waves through the country, and while the focus has largely been on anger from the black community, the fact remains that the alleged shooter, currently in hiding from vigilante threats, is a self-described Hispanic man.
But if George Zimmerman was hoping to find support in the Latino community, he should look elsewhere.
“The Latino community joins the African-American community and other communities in condemning George Zimmerman as what he is – a murderer and a racist,” Roberto Lovato, co-founder of the online Latino advocacy organization Presente.
The group is acting on Trayvon’s behalf. Presente has joined with Color of Change to petition for the arrest of Martin’s murderer.
“Todos somos Trayvon! (We are all Trayvon!),” Presente wrote, urging supporters to sign the petition. The group also has a petition to condemn Geraldo Rivera for blaming Martin’s hoodie for his death. According to Lovato, the petition currently has 18,000 signatures.
La Raza has rallied for Martin with the civil rights community as well.
The organization’s urged so much in a March 22 post at the Huffington Post.
“NCLR [the National Council of La Raza] joins allies in the civil rights community in calling for a real investigation for this grievous failure of justice,” president and CEO Janet Murguía wrote.
Murguía further encouraged members of the Latino community to participate in a rally to demand justice for Martin that evening at the First Shiloh Baptist Church in Sanford, FL.
In an interview with The Daily Caller, La Raza spokeswoman Lisa Navarrete reiterated the importance of an investigation.
“I think at the end of the day the indisputable fact is that the police did not do a thorough job, certainly given the 911 calls and everything else there was clearly much more to this than the police initially thought and should have been investigated and hopefully now it will be,” she said.

A Complete Investigation is Vital for Justice in Trayvon Martin Case
The death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed African American teenager who was fatally shot by a neighborhood watch member in a gated community outside Orlando, FL, remains an unresolved and disturbing incident. The lack of action from the police–despite mounting evidence that the findings of their initial and unconscionably cursory investigation are incorrect–has led to national outrage, online petitions with thousands of signatures, national mobilizations, and a Department of Justice investigation. Unfortunately, Trayvon Martin’s death reminds us of a frightening time in our country’s history when violent crimes perpetrated against African Americans went unreported or were protected by law enforcement authorities.
Earlier this month, NCLR [the National Council of La Raza] joined with African American civil rights leaders to march from Selma to Montgomery, AL. We marched against unjust and discriminatory laws that threatened to take away our vote and our civil rights. We marched for a common struggle against a hateful environment that is being sown in not only Alabama, but throughout the United States. It is an environment that says that if you are Latino, you somehow “don’t belong” in this country. It is also an environment that says that if you are African American in this country, you don’t have the right to walk on the street.
The fact that the Sanford police chose not to fully and thoroughly investigate this incident is unconscionable and unacceptable. From numerous media and witness reports, it seems that the police failed in their most basic and fundamental duty to the citizens they are sworn to protect.
NCLR joins allies in the civil rights community in calling for a real investigation for this grievous failure of justice. We urge members of the Latino community to join the rally taking place on Thursday, March 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the First Shiloh Baptist Church in Sanford, FL to demand justice for Trayvon Martin and to stand for the protections that all Americans deserve.
We commend the Department of Justice for launching a federal investigation into the matter and we urge an exhaustive look into what actually happened and who needs to be held accountable–including George Zimmerman, as well as law enforcement–for that tragic night.
Here’s whats funny… All you Nuck-a’s saying its a racial thing, calling us non-negros racist. no-one living knows what happened that night except zimmerman. He’s not white. All you negro-staffers rallying troops for your cause… I’m white and proud and NOT a racist. But I gotta tell you, you make it easy to choose a side when it immediately becomes about race. I wear a hoodie all the time. its not gangster, its warm and protects your head and neck. Maybe Trayvon was acting out as your stereo-typical black teen male would. Of course he wants to stand his ground, he just should’ve smart enough to not stand graound againt a gun when you have skittles. Can’t only be mad @ Zimmerman, let’s be real… what black people you know that will walk in the rain? Even a dude will get his hair all funked up and for a teen black male thats not acceptable.. George Zimmerman is a paranoid little bitch, didn’t need a gun… but had one… Trayvon, guilty of something or not, wasn’t hunted… he was a victim of being in a fight against a bigger weapon. Maybe Zim-bim wasn’t screaming, maybe it was Trayvon. Or maybe it was someone else entirely who witnessed and never spoke up… Stop sounding off like ignorrant racist bastards. start looking at what happened without bias and realize that, un-fortunately, in that state, with those laws and with no eye witnesses. What George Zimmerman did cannot be proven illegal. AND SPIKE LEE IS AN INSTIGATOR
