How many dead Black children does it take to get a Sandy Hook response?

Black death has become an addiction, a political football when convenient and a marketing tool…it is also something with each passing day can’t be ignored…If we are not bothered by this, then something is seriously wrong….Here’s a video of Hadiya in 6th grade speaking out on gangs.

Below is a powerful essay from a Chicagoan who is all too familiar with the daily carnage going on in her city…

How many dead Black children does it take to get a Sandy Hook response?

15 year old Hadiya was shot and killed in a random act of violence in Chicago

15 year old Hadiya was shot and killed in a random act of violence in Chicago

Do you remember? Remember when you were young and carefree? Think back on how excited you would have been with an early dismissal from school into warm weather and a park nearby. Remember wanting to just cool out for a minute, hang on to the laughter and silly antics of  your friends before heading home to chores and studying? Time travel to the time when life was so full and promising, back when you had the zeal and energy to really live it?

How old were you back then? When did that all end for you?

Well for Hadiya Pendleton 15years old was her time. A baby really, just getting her taste of life’s promises. A scholar attending King Preparatory High School on the south side of Chicago. An enthusiastic student, a member of her school’s volley ball team and it’s band that just performed at President Obama’s Inauguration, a trip to Paris on the horizon as a part of an exchange program. Young and carefree, yet it ended much too soon for Hadiya. Her young life snatched just as she was getting to the good part; her life counted in the number of children whose lives have been cut down before they could really fully create a memory.

Atlanta Rapper Yung Hott Shot and Killed on Video Set-5 Yr Girl old Also Shot

There’s no words to describe this.. Many of us were morning the tragic killing of 7-year-old Aiyana S Jones at the hands of a Detroit policeman who was trying to apprehend a murder suspect while having a reality TV crew in tow. Many of us feel the camera crew influenced him to make a bad decision. 1000 miles away in Atlanta we have rapper Yung Hott filming a video when he gets shot and killed on his set…Also shot but expected to survive was a 5-year-old girl. The disrespect for life is way too rampant.

It was just one year ago to the day that we lost Atlanta rapper Dolla to gun violence. A confrontation in Atlanta resulted in a cat getting on a plane and getting at Dolla in LA where he was gunned down..

Earlier this year Wacka Flocka was shot but survived in what was said to be an attempted robbery. Sadly he wound up having another skirmish when gang members stormed his video shoot ready to squab with him. All this is beginning to be way too juvenile and all to tragic because lives are lost..Its also interesting to note how folks seem to egg on these confrontations by making fun of  folks for trying toavoid further bloodshed..

A rapper known as Yung Hott was killed during a Saturday evening shooting spree that erupted while he made a video in his hometown, Griffin police said.

One accused shooter is still on the loose, police said.

Jerode Paige died at the scene of the quadruple shooting in which about 20 rounds were fired, according to Lt. Sam Parks. Three others, including a 5-year-old girl, suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Police pulled over a white Chrysler after the shooting and detained three suspects, WSB-TV reported. The investigation is continuing.

The additional shooting victims included a 5-year-old girl who was playing in a toy car in her yard. The child suffered a wound to her left foot. She was treated at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and released Sunday.

Two of the shooting victims were treated at Spalding Regional Hospital, then transferred to police custody. They are being called “persons of interest.”

The incident happened around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Tinsley and Fourth streets, police said.

Paige, 27, was filming his first video when the shooting began. His uncle, Kenny Paige, was among 150 to 200 people who were working on the video or watching when the gunfire erupted.

“I mean, it was broad daylight,” Kenny Paige told the AJC. “I heard a lot of gunshots and people scattered.”

Paige was shot in the head, his uncle said.

The video was to accompany Paige’s first single, which had recently been played on an Atlanta radio station, according to Sid Cooper, a producer who had worked with the rapper.

“He had some good music,” Cooper told the AJC. “His music was real. Everything he talked about in his music he did.”

Friends said Paige was trying to turn his life around after a past that included prison. Paige was released from Wheeler Correctional Facility in central Georgia in June and was on parole, according to state Department of Corrections online records. He served prison time for a variety of drug offenses as well as possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

“He was on the right track,” Cooper said.

Paige’s father was beaten to death at age 28, and Paige was raised by his grandmother in Griffin, another uncle, Gary Paige, told the AJC. Paige was pursuing his music career with a single-minded purpose. He was again living with his grandmother.

“He got out [of prison] and he said he wasn’t going to let anybody stop him from getting his career,” Gary Paige said. “He wanted to give his grandmother a lot. He was really into his music and he wanted to show his grandmother he had the ability to be somebody.”

Paige made a point of saying he was from Griffin, not Atlanta.

“He wanted everybody to know he was from a little town that had a lot of talent,” Gary Paige said.

Paige’s uncles said they believe he was targeted but had no idea why

This whole situation involving Will Iam and gossip columnist Perez Hilton speaks to a larger issue at hand. It speaks to the oftentimes tumultuous relationship between entertainers and press (papparazi), that is now complicated by press either seeking to be or already as large and famous as the people they cover. Complicating this even more is that the writers  are oftentimes famous because they’ve made careers out of clowning or dissing these entertainers. A lot of artists resent people getting famous by riding their coat tails.

Some people say well thats the price of fame. You have to take it  and learn to deal with it. Increasingly more and more writers feel like this is their way in the door. They look for a newsworthy icon  and then do the ‘unthinkable’ which is diss them. The more outrageous the dis the more attention paid to the blogger/writer. I can’t really say if its fair or unfair, but it puts people on a collision course where what happened to Hilton becomes the norm and not the aberration.

I recently had a conversation with a blogger who tried to explain to me that its important that he ‘critiques’ artists. He said there’s an art in critiquing and that its important that the public knows whether or not an album is wack or dope.  It didn’t matter to this writer that wackness and dopeness are subjective and that a harsh critique sometimes impacts more than just an artist. This writer was pretty resolute. He was gonna be dissing artists if he felt they deserved to be dissed and that was that..

I ended the conversation by noting the irony of him being backstage wearing a laminate, eating food in an artists dressing room and for the most part being part of the entourage. I noted its not the same as if he went out, brought the album, paid the ticket price for the show, hung out with the audience and not backstage where he could really gage whether or not that artist connects with his fan..

Today the terrain is such that if you are in the spotlight, there is a multi-million dollar industry that will quickly attach itself  to you and ride straight to the bank.. Perez going after the Black Eyed Peas is one of those people. Probably figured they were easy targets. Funny how not too long ago Hilton was publicly apologizing to NORE after he dissed him and got stepped to. Funny  how you rarely see him go after someone like Suge or anyone else who clock him and keep it moving..

The way things are going its just a matter of time before someone gets killed around all this, especially when you take into account some of these paparrazi agencies now employ gang bangers to do their dirt digging..

Will I am claims he came to Perez Hilton in respect and was called a faggot. Why would Perez use a slur that he personally finds demeaning and deragotory?

In Toronto — Police have charged the tour manager of the Black Eyed Peas with assault after he allegedly punched celebrity blogger Perez Hilton outside a Toronto nightclub. Hilton said he got into an argument with band members Fergie and will.i.am at the Cobra nightclub early Monday morning and was punched outside by Polo Molina, the band’s tour manager. They were at the club following a Sunday night video awards show.

Molina turned himself in and has been charged with assaulting Hilton, Toronto Police Constable Tony Vella said. Molina is due in court Aug. 5.

Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, complained about the incident on the microblogging site Twitter. He tweeted at 4 a.m.: “I am bleeding. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke.”

Hilton, who is openly gay, said in interview with The Associated Press that he called will.i.am a “faggot,” a gay slur, inside the club after the musician told the blogger not to write about his band on his Web site.

“He was like ‘You need to respect me.’ He was in my face. He was obviously trying to intimidate me and scare me,” Hilton said. “I was like ‘I don’t need to respect you. I don’t respect you and I did say this, and I knew that it would be the worst thing I could possibly say to him because he was acting the way he was. I said ‘You know what, I don’t respect you and you’re gay and stop being such a faggot.’”

Will.i.am said in a video posting on dipdive.com that he came to Hilton with respect and was called a “faggot.”

Hilton, who was at the club with Lady Gaga, said he then left the club and was punched from behind. The pop stars and the blogger were among celebrities in Toronto for the MuchMusic Video Awards on Sunday night.

A spokeswoman for the Black Eyed Peas declined comment.

In other gay type rap new Eminiem – nah just kidding. We think
is the focal point of a disturbing story out of Arizona: a 29-year-old man has told police that he sang Eminem songs while fatally stabbing his wife and daughter, KSAZ-TV reports. His 4-year-old son survived the attack, despite being stabbed 11 times. According to police, the man, Michael Miller, said he was possessed and believed that his wife was a demon.

More chilling details:
Just before stabbing her at 4 a.m., he told police he started screaming lyrics from an Eminem song, saying, “Here comes Satan, I’m the anti-Christ, I’m going to kill you.”

Miller admitted to police that when the kids awoke to their mother’s screams, he stabbed them too. He said he stabbed his son Brian the most because he loved him the most.

Then he rolled a cigarette, said another prayer, and called 911, police say
