Why Hip Hop Won’t Tangle With the Tea Party

Why Hip Hop Won’t Tangle With the Tea Party: Call for a Militant Mind Militia

by TRUTH Minista Paul Scott

Whatcha do get your head ready. Instead of gettin’ physically sweaty”

                         Welcome to the Terror-dome-Public Enemy

In breaking news, two of Hip Hop’s most popular artists died today. In what was the culmination of a year long beef, an altercation in the middle of 52nd street has left both men dead. No, they didn’t shoot each other. As they stood arguing in the middle of the street, they were run over by a Tea Party Express bus that was running late for a rally…

Beef. That is one word with which the Hip Hop community has become very familiar over the last decade and a half. The term has resulted in many tragedies in the black community ranging from neighborhood feuds to deaths on street corners. Black people taking it to other Black people is an everyday occurrence in ‘hoods across the country. This is what makes the Hip Hop community’s (and the black community, in general) lack of response to the current climate of hate fueled by the Tea Party, Birthers and other agents of White Supremacy especially disturbing.

For the last year, anti-Afrikan behavior has escalated from anti -Black propaganda being promoted on radio stations to black Congressmen being called racial slurs and spat upon. All over the country Right Wing racists are rallying thousands of people, while black folks are pretending not to notice.

Since Hip Hop has always prided itself as being the true voice of the black community, you would think that rap artists would be on the front line fighting against these disses to black folks.

Not so.

So far, there have been, relatively, few Hip Hoppers calling out the Right Wingers. This is not to say that “no” rap artists are speaking out on issues, as there are Hip Hop Freedom Fighters in communities across the country but most have heard about the attacks that came upon such political artists such as Professor Griff and Sister Souljah in the 80’s/90’s and don’t want the same thing to happen to them. Many of them feel that even if they did take a stand, an unorganized, apathetic black community would just leave them hanging.

I don’t know if you noticed it or not but radio stations have even stopped playing “violent” music over the last few months. Instead, radio has dumped violence for misogyny. While we must not condone black on black violence in any form, the rationale for the sudden change in radio rotation must be examined.

The industry knows that one of the by products of Hip Hop has been black male rebelliousness. This is why those in power were quick to blame incidents of racial unrest such as the Virginia Beach and  LA rebellions (riots) of the late 80’s/early 90’s on the music of groups like Public Enemy. Immediately, they went to work to replace revolutionary Hip Hop with gangsta tales of black on black homicide and chemical genocide (crack sales). During the following decade, since  “racism” became less overt, the black male displaced aggression generated by Hip Hop was used on other black males.

However, with racism/White Supremacy becoming more “in your face” over the last year, the “powers that be” don’t want to risk the fratricidal message of gangsta rap to be misinterpreted as a call to “fight the power.” They know that with a change of a couple of words a 50 Cent song becomes a Dead Prez-like call to “bang on the system.” So now, all you hear on the radio is “stripper music” dealing with girls instead of guns.

The agents of white supremacy have studied our history well. They know the success that Bunchy Carter, Fred Hampton and others had in transforming gang bangers into revolutionaries during the Black Power Era. They know that a Blood or Crip esposed to a  strong dose of political education has the potential to become Black Panther or Deacon for Defense.

They also know that even the most hardcore thug will become outraged if while flippin’ the channel between Hip Hop stations, he hears a Right Wing radio host call him a “no good bum who will never amount to anything” and his mother a “lazy welfare queen.”

And with the escalation of anti-black rhetoric from Right Wing radio hosts this scenario is possible if not probable.

In every city the Right Wingers are organizing their troops via Conservative radio stations, as media giants such as Clear Channel have begun converting their country music stations into virtual 100,000 watt Ku Klux Klan headquarters. In, North Carolina they recently turned 106.1 FM into “Rush Radio, named after their star player, the infamous Rush Limbaugh. Clear Channel realizes that all politics is local so ,although they broadcast the likes of Sean Hannity, Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh, throughout the day , during the morning drive time, their programming becomes early morning strategy sessions. So while the nationally syndicated bigots like Limbaugh lay out the national strategy, the local hosts and their listeners politic on  how to implement it locally. All the while black folks are busy lip syncing, “How Low Can You Go” on their way to work, totally oblivious to the plans being devised on the talk radio station at the end of the dial.

In NC, the WRDU “Morning Show” insults black folks every morning with the same Right Wing racist garbage without being challenged. They have even set up a chat room where their racist listeners hold strategy sessions every morning from 5:30AM to 9AM EST because they know that most black folks are too busy laughing at J. Anthony Brown jokes on the Tom Joyner Morning Show to pay them any attention.

Twenty years ago, we would have never stood still for this disrespect without challenging it. However, nowadays we are too busy getting into Internet “beefs” on YouTube with other Afrikans that we don’t seem to have time to challenge those who espouse the tenets of white global domination and the oppression of Afrikan people.

That is why it is important that we form “Militant Mind Militias” in  ‘hoods across the country to counter the lies and attacks on black culture from the Right wing. We have to start calling in to these Right Wing racist talk shows and challenging their racist rhetoric.

Don’t get it twisted, this has nothing to do with whether one agrees with the politics of Barack Obama. This is about the anti-Afrikan white supremacist ideology being spewed by the Tea Party and the rest of their crew.

It is time that we dust off our Neely Fuller and Amos Wilson books and put the principals into action.  Some of us have read hundreds of books on African History but only use the information to prove that we are intellectually superior to our black brothers and sisters; never once challenging the Ph.D carrying members of white supremacist think tanks.

It is time that we start using Youtube, Facebook and Twitter for something more than booty calls and coonery.

It is time that we start using our Afrikan minds to challenge white supremacy ideology.

Militant Mind Militias must be started immediately using our strong Afrikan intellect as weapons.

We have nothing to lose but our mental chains.

I know that some of you are going to cop out and give 100 reasons why we should  not get into ideological debates with white folks. You really only need one reason to do so; our people need to see black intelligence in action. Isn’t that what inspired us to follow the teachings of Malcolm X, Dr. Khallid Muhammad and Dr. John Henrik Clark, that they were not afraid to challenge the best white scholars in open debate?

The ancestors are crying out for us to engage the oppressor in a battle of the minds.

Unfortunately, so far, Hip Hop and most black folks have been missing in action.

Fear of a Brown Planet-Rush Limbaugh Resurrects the Brown Immigrant Boogie-man

Fear of a Brown Planet…

Now that healthcare is passed the next fault-line in the political landscape is Immigration.. Not immigration which has suddenly allowed thousands of people to some how come over from Russia and populate places like Brighton Beach, Brooklyn… Not immigration from places like former Yugoslavia. We’re talking about immigration from Mexico and other places throughout Latin America resulting in people all being placed under the umbrella of Mexican and along with that every conceivable negative stereotype.

There already is a lot of overt racism that shows up in the form of check points hundreds of miles away from any border. It shows up in the form of 287 G a federally funded program that basically deputizes local law enforcement and makes them become ICE agents. The end result is many who live within immigrant communities are not willing to take any chances and thus don’t call the police under any circumstances. This of course results in those communities being over run by unsavory elements who prey upon that fear of the police.

This gets compounded by laws set up in places like Arizona where someone transporting or helping someone who is undocumented can lead to jail time. This of course has resulted in an across the board fear and apprehension of dealing with anyone who is Brown. It shows up in the continuation of us building immigrant detention centers which house entire families and can temporary hold people if they are suspected of being here ‘illegally’ or even have parts of their paper work filed wrong.

Rodstarz

For example, it was just three weeks ago that Rodstarz and his brother G1 of the group Rebel Diaz were detained at customs in Houston as they returned  home from Chile. There was something wrong with Rod’s paper work in terms of how the computer listed him. They had him down as a felon, which is wasn’t and isn’t and he wound up staying in customs for 10 hrs. The next step was gonna be a trip and extended stay at a nearby detention camp  while INS hade up to two weeks to investigate. When everything was finally straightened out, Rod was told he needs to carry around papers stating his court appearances from 4 years ago were resolved. We have scores of stories like this where Brown citizens in this country are subjected to daily humiliations.

The latest tirade against Brown folks comes from Rush Limbaugh the man who said he would leave the country for a the Brown land of Costa Rica should Healthcare reform pass.  he hasn’t left yet and instead has decided to dig his heels into Brown folks citing that we should all fear Amnesty being granted to people who have crossed the border.

My homegirl professor Tina Wright has been speaking on the push by righht wing zealots to push this country into racial conflict. She hip me to the Rush tirade.. Here’s whats she had to say.
Tina Bell Wright Here is part of the transcript from Limbaugh’s latest hate speech today (see my previous post re: call for Obama assasination)…and hearing it in audio is even more inciteful…he and Beck are purposely fueling white fear…”From Bacon to Obama” will be the title of my
next essay…i have been saying for the longest time that folks are not
really digging deep enough into the real war that is erupting…the fire THIS time. Yes, fascists corporatists run our country, but be clear on
this…PE said it best: it takes a nation of millions to hold us back (not …just
the 1% elite) and that war started before this country ever had its
first president with Bacon’s rebellion, but it just might end with the
Obama presidency….white supremacy fighting to keep power by any means necessary
for fear of the “browning of America” is the latest blacklash …a direct result of Obama’s election. We either learn lessons of history….or we continue to repeat them.
I agree with Tina assesment,  however, where I see fault lines brewing is along the the issue of class  with  Black  and Brown conflict along those lines being an explosive ingredient… Meaning I hear some absolute ignorant stuff being spewed and than translated into action by some well to do folks both Black and Brown about ‘Immigrants’.. I see such things increasing and people like Rush granting platforms to those who say and do things that further a divide. What’s most interesting in Rush Limbaugh’s tirade is his use of the words ‘divide and conquer’ to describe what President Obama wants to do around the issue of immigration. He’s accussing this issue of being one that seperates ‘good brown people from the rest of America..
Something to ponder

Rush Limbaugh: Obama’s Next Big Push-Amnesty

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_032210/content/01125108.guest.html

RUSH: Now, what’s next, ladies and gentlemen?  I told you it’s going to hit you between the eyes.  While you weren’t looking, and it didn’t get a whole lot of coverage yesterday: “Tens of thousands of immigrants and activists rallied in Washington, calling for legislation this year to give legal status to millions of illegal immigrants and seeking to pressure President Obama to keep working on the contentious issue once the health care debate is behind him. … The rally brought the return to major street action by immigration activists, who turned out hundreds of thousands of protesters in marches and rallies in 2006.” Their message to Obama: We gave you time on health care, now we want amnesty.  But they don’t have to lobby President Obama for this, and they don’t have to protest for it.

They don’t have to even ask for it.  The next big push, almost immediately — and they will use whatever unconstitutional measure they have to to get it done — will be amnesty.  And I want to predict to you how Obama is going to sell this.  Mr. Snerdley, would you suspend your call screening for just a moment because I need you to hear this.  Whoever you’re speaking to, put ’em on hold.  I want you to hear this, ’cause you’re going to get phone calls about it.  The next big push — we’re not even going to breathe a sigh of relief before it happens, these people are relentless — the next big push will be amnesty for as many millions of illegal immigrants who are here.  Obama is going to need their votes in 2012.  The Democrats are going to need their votes at every election from this day forward, if down the road we have elections, and I’m not joking.  The Constitution has just been ripped to shreds.  So why is anything in it safe?

I want you to hear how Obama’s going to sell this.  I want you to hear how Obama’s going to run around the country at these rallies, here’s what he’s going to say: (imitating Obama) “There are some people who don’t like your skin color, who don’t think you should be American.”  He has come to divide.  He has come to conquer.  Is there anybody who now doubts what I meant when I said, “I hope he fails”?  He has failed.  He has succeeded.  The happiness that these people are feeling should sicken every one of us because the happiness they’re feeling is the happiness derived from the destruction of America as founded.  There are people in responsible positions of power in our government today who have deep resentment for this country, who have been raised, who have been educated to believe that this country is immoral and unjust, that we have stolen the resources of the rest of the world and used them for our own greed, that our prosperity has resulted from the real people who make things work being stolen from them.  We have imperialistically sent our military around the world and murdered innocent people.

They don’t view this country as having liberated millions of people to freedom.  They look at this country as one big criminal act, one big civil rights, human rights violation.  Don’t doubt me.  That is how Obama has been raised to look at this country, and he believes it, and he’s put a lot of people in unaccountable positions in his administration who have the same belief, and you know who some of them are.  Van Jones, admitted communists.  These are no longer baseless allegations or charges designed to get people’s attention.  This is the truth that we face.  The Democrat Party has been co-opted and is now led by a far leftist faction who admire and envy people like Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro.  Have you ever wondered why so many Democrats and so many stupid, idiotic celebrities have an affinity and love for Castro, despite what’s happened to his country, despite what he’s done to it?  They envy his power.  They think they now have that power.

So the next thing that’s going to happen is a major push for immigration reform, comprehensive immigration reform.  It will be called amnesty.  Now, I am told that Lindsey Grahamnesty has now said he’s rethinking supporting this after he’s seen the tactics used to get health care.  Fine and dandy.  But none of this should have been a mystery to anybody.  None of the evidence should have been missed.  Who our opponents are has been widely available if somebody just wanted to believe it.  Gone are the days of traditional Republicans and Democrats sharing power.  There’s no sharing power.  Barack Obama has come to divide, and he has come to conquer.  “There are people who don’t like your skin color,” he will tell pro-immigration rallies.  “There are people who don’t like your skin color, don’t think you should be American.”  He will divide this country even further.

The Republicans will face the same dilemma there that we faced in health care.  No matter what we do, and no matter what the public polls are, we can’t stop it.  Not until November.  We can’t stop it.  We deal with a president who doesn’t care how many votes he loses in November.  We deal with a president who actually may be looking forward to a Republican majority in the House, ’cause it’s very difficult to run against your own party and blame them for the things aren’t getting done, but if you have a Republican majority in the House, you’ve got a built-in enemy, you’ve got a built-in demon, a built-in diabolical enemy that you can campaign and run against.  This should not stop us from our desire to win.  I’m just telling you, don’t think that Obama will dial it back here because of November elections.  He’ll ratchet it up.  He’s gonna try to get cap and trade, don’t be surprised.  Don’t be surprised if they don’t go home in August.  Don’t be surprised at anything.

I’ll tell you what else is going to happen down the road.  Mark Steyn touched on this in a little piece at National Review Online yesterday.  The US military has always been used to defend and protect the people of this country and our like-minded allies who were devoted to the concept of human liberty and freedom.  Those days will soon end.  Barack Obama does not look at that as a proper role for this country.  He’s not interested in defending your freedom.  He’s interested in taking it.  There is no way he will stand with other nations who are oriented as we used to be.  The only way that Obama will ever be able to come even one-tenth of the way close to paying for any of this spending that he has personally written the check for, is to practically get rid of the US military.  Defense cuts.  Well, take a look.  All of the somewhat models, I think we’re far down the road, far worse than these European socialist countries which the left seems to think is ideal for us to be, those people are going to look like rock-ribbed conservatives compared to us when Obama gets through.

Here you have a guy who doesn’t like the US military, who thinks it’s been used for imperialistic purposes.  He can’t wait to slash that, use that money for domestic spending.  You’ve heard the Democrat Party say this your whole life, cut defense, build up social programs, stop the Iraq war, we’re going to pay for health care with that.  By the way, the Iraq war is still going on, so is Afghanistan, but the days of the United States projecting its power in defense of people who are in bondage will likely come to an end.  I’m well aware that we have Iran looming and there’s nothing stopping Iran, and the Russians are aligning with them.  Our problems go way beyond our borders.  The problems beyond our borders, however, are of very little interest to Barack Obama compared to his desires within our borders.  He will continue his crusade to forever alter this country.  He has come to divide.  He has come to conquer.  And some of the Republicans on our side still don’t get it, still refuse to see this man, his presidency, his administration for what it is, and some of our own conservative so-called commentariat don’t get it.  Rome is burning, and instead of putting out the fire we have too many people looking for a bag of marshmallows.

In These Troubled Times We Really Need to Remember Martin Luther King-Now More Than Ever

Click HERE to listen to Speech

This weekend we celebrate what would’ve been Martin Luther King‘s 81st  birthday. In doing this we take time out to reflect on his life and the words he delivered on the issues of peace and social justice.

This year I wanted to put forth one of my favorite speeches by Dr King called ‘Entrance into the Civil Rights Movement.. It’s an important speech in the sense that it highlights what was at the core of King’s essence-his relationship to God and his ability to call upon the Holy Spirit.  It’s a very moving speech where he outlines the challenges he was facing as a leader and how he to look deep inside himself in order to move forward…

you can peep the speech here:

http://bit.ly/5t17Ns

As we celebrate, I am also including a YouTube video I put together called MLK vs the Radio.. This is contains portions of speech that King gave in August 1967 to a group of Black radio broadcasters. It’s an incredible piece where he talks about the responsibility and important role Black radio played in furthering the Civil Rights Movement. I wanted to reintroduce this speech because many of us are still reeling from the verbal assaults that have been occuring on radio shows like the one hosted by blowhards like Rush Limbaugh who recently made disparaging remarks about  50 thousand Haitans who dies in this weeks earthquake.. I want people to peep this video and ask yourself if media is doing right by you.. This piece also includes the voices of activist Rosa Clemente, Minister Farrakhan, H Rap Brown and Chuck D of Public Enemy…

Below is a quick bio  from Wikipedia…

Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American clergyman, activist and prominent leader in the African-American civil rights movement. His main legacy was to secure progress on civil rights in the United States, and he has become a human rights icon: King is recognized as a martyr by two Christian churches.[1] A Baptist minister,[2] King became a civil rights activist early in his career. He led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957, serving as its first president. King’s efforts led to the 1963 March on Washington, where King delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech. There, he raised public consciousness of the civil rights movement and established himself as one of the greatest orators in U.S. history.

Harry Reid, Michael Steele, Negro Dialect & Political Grandstanding on the Backs of Blacks

Harry Reid, Michael Steele, Negro Dialect & Political Grandstanding

by Davey D

By now everyone has heard about the racial firestorm that has brewed because of some remarks attributed to Senate majority leader Harry Reid in a new book called Game Change. They were made in a private conversation during the 2008 campaign where Reid noted that then Senator Obama might be successful because he was light-skin and didn’t speak with a ‘Negro Dialect’. Obama in typical fashion avoided the mess that can come when discussing race by quickly accepting Reid’s apology, downplaying the remarks and announcing ‘the book is closed’ on the subject.

Of course Obama’s Republican counterparts seeing that Reid is in a tight re-election race have been trying their best to blow this issue up. The party of Ronald Reagan who supported South African Apartheid, the party of John McCain who said ‘No to a Martin Luther King holiday are suddenly getting all Jesse Jackson-like and riding hard for all those who have been on the receiving end of racial insults and oppression.. Thank you Republican Party-I guess…Not! LOL

Reid’s remarks have been the lead story on every news channel with news directors feverishly pouring through their rolodexes, seeking to get a Black pundit, seemingly any Black pundit to come to a studio where they would normally never see the light of day except during Black history month. Here they’re asked to wax poetic about Reid’s remarks. Some of these outlets have gone so far as to have two or three Black folks on at the same time thus violating the unwritten ‘one-Black-on-set-at-a-time’ rule.

It was good to Black scholars like Marc Lamont Hill weighin in on Harry Reid's remarks, but it would be good to see him and others weighin in on Sunday morning talk shows

To me I was more offended seeing a Professor Tricia Rose, Professor Marc Lamont Hill, BET’s Jeff Johnson and the dozen of other Black faces invited to discuss an old white man using the word ‘Negro’ versus seeing them invited on a regular basis to discuss a variety of other topics that have arguably more impact. I would’ve like to have seen some of those Black voices on the Sunday morning talk shows earlier this year dragging Harry Reid’s ass through the coals around the Healthcare debate when single payer and later public option got snatched off the table. To me the insult was seeing Black intelligence limited to just this topic whereas I might see a dimwit like Ann Coulter invited to weigh in on everything from the War in Afghanistan to what Chris Brown did to Rihanna.

I suppose I shouldn’t blame Harry Reid for that lack of Black visibility on these news outlets, but I will. As the Senate majority leader, I want him pushing for legislation that de-consolidates media and makes it more accessible to the wide array of voices and perspectives in the community. I want him to be leading the charge to undue the damage he helped create when he voted Yes for the infamous 1996 Telecommunications Bill.

Reframe the Debate and Hold Reid Accountable

In any case, while this Harry Reid saga runs its course, I think its important that folks push the envelop a bit and reframe the debate away from the narratives seemingly designed to fit the agendas of media outlets, disingenuous politicians or media darlings trying to blow up their names. I wish people who went on these shows were more aggressive in dismissing the Harry Reid vs Trent Lott angle which has resulted in wasteful discussions about who was more offensive and whether or not double standards are at play. That discussion is a trap.

Comparing Harry Reid to Trent Lott is a trap. It only serves the purpose of media outlets looking for conflict and GOP folks trying to stay in the news cycle

The thing we needed to be focused on was the rationale behind Harry Reid‘s remarks and his political relationship to an African-American community that votes to the tune of 96% for the Democrat political party that he leads in the Senate. Our discussion needed to be centered on us evaluating whether or not one of the most powerful lawmakers in the country was setting policy that met the needs and wants of our community.

What caught most people’s attention about Reid’s remarks was him using the phrase Negro Dialect.  It was used in a private conversation and it raised eyebrows because as far as most of us know Senator Reid has never publicly called Obama a ‘Negro’ Senator or President. We haven’t heard him call his African American colleagues in Congress, Negroes.. So where did this phrase ‘Negro dialect’ come from? Why did he use such an out of date word? Was his use of the word just a bad habit or was it reflective of old-time thinking filled with whatever baggage and stereotypes that many whites had stuck in their heads back in the 50s and 60s when the use of that word was pervasive?

Sadly too many pundits were falling over themselves making ding dong excuses for Reid. Some were saying he’s elderly and thats how old folks talk. Others were jumping through hoops talking how we have the United Negro College Fund, the NAACP-National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and how the word is used in the 2010 Census therefore it was ok for Reid to go there.

All thats fine and dandy, but last I checked Senator Reid is not a historic 66 year old or 100 year Civil Rights old institution. Last time I interviewed NCAAP head Julian Bond, he didn’t call me Negro and neither had Ben Jealous. I’ve hosted events sponsored by UNCF and no one walked up to me and handed me a script that would would’ve had me addressing our people as ‘Negro’. If these folks stay up to date so can Senate majority leader Harry Reid.

When I first heard of Reid’s remarks the first thing that came to mind was ‘How often does he interact with Black folks on the Capitol Hill’? Cause I’m sure by now someone would’ve checked him. He would’ve had to run into a Maxine Waters, Keith Ellison or someone else who was outspoken who would’ve said; ‘Look Senator, I know your 71 years old, but its 2010 and if my 90 year grandmother from the backwoods of Mississsippi ain’t using the word ‘Negro’ therefore you too Senator Reid can stop using it ‘.

Now unless someone is covering for him, we haven’t heard that such conversation took place. Hence that makes me think, that Senator Reid knows all about speaking multiple dialects? I guess during the day when he’s in in the Senate chambers, he has a distinguished ‘US Senator-dialect’ by night when he’s kicking it in private he loosens up a bit and becomes more Archie Bunkerish with his language?

So again, just to make sure…since Senator Reid used Archie Bunker type language then our primary concern should be examining his voting record to make sure the Senator’s not pushing Archie Bunker type policies. His slip up gave us an extra excuse to hold him politically accountable.

We need to see if Harry Reid's outdated words are reflected in outdated policies

For example, earlier this year Senator Reid voted to prohibit funding for ACORN, an organization that played a key role in helping get President Obama elected. Was Reid’s vote a calculated political decision or did he come across one too many folks from that organization who he felt spoke with a ‘Negro dialect’ thus getting him to draw some far gone  conclusions that ‘Negroes can’t be trusted to do things right’ so hence no funding?

2 or 3 years ago Reid voted to make English the official language for the country. What was going on in his head? Was there no room for Negro dialects? Did he want people to speak only ‘good ole American English’ thus inspiring to cast a vote to make sure?

Just like his political enemies we need to be looking at his voting record and making sure his private conversations of insensitive language was used is not matched by his votes and the agenda he sets for the Senate. You can peep his voting record here: http://www.votesmart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=53320&category=13

Dealing with Republican Hypocrisy

Moving beyond Reid, one needs to look closely at the how the Republicans are handling this. I found it funny to see RNC chair Michael Steele express his supposed outrage for Reid’s remarks when he himself was chin checked by disgruntled members of his own party who felt like he was tarnishing the Republican brand by going on televison talk shows trying to be hip by using Hip Hop jargon which isn’t too far removed from what some might call Negro/Black dialect.

RNC Chair Michael Steele is gonna have a Jesse Jackson moment, he needs to tell Rush Limbaugh to stop playing the Barack the Magic Negro song

Steele said he was trying to make the party more attractive and more Hip Hop like. That whole thing got shut down with the quickness. If you recall, Steele got a verbal ass whupping from radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh who was annoyed and later outraged by Steele’s behavior. It all reached a boiling point when Steele went on the now defunct DL Hugley show which aired on CNN. Sitting between Hughley and Public Enemy frontman Chuck D, Steele got jammed up about why he would hang with a political party that had leaders like Rush Limbaugh who at the time was underfire for saying he ‘wanted President Obama to fail’. Those remarks were coming at the heels of Limbaugh enraging African Americans by repeatdly playing a song during Obama’s campaign called Barack the Magic Negro.

Steele tried to laugh it off, talk a little hip hop slang and assure critics that Limbaugh was ‘just an entertainer’. When Limbaugh heard Steele tried to play him, he went off and smashed on Steele in the tirade of tirades. Limbaugh took to the airwaves and publicly reminded Steele he had 20-30 million listeners and that if he doesn’t start showing some loyalty to the party  he might discover that conservative will not wanna talk to him when he came calling. Limbaugh told Steele that he needed to stop going on TV and start raising money for the RNC. It was a brutal tongue lashing, that resulted in Steele apologizing to Limbaugh and being a lap dog ever since..

We won’t even mention that Steele didn’t have the guts to tell Rush to retire when he was playing the Barack the Magic Negro song. He didn’t even tell him to stop. In fact not too many of the outspoken GOP members stepped up and expressed outrage for racial insensitivity expressed by someone who claimed to be advocating for them.

Just to show you how meeley mouth Steele and his people are let’s see the lack of reaction in April 2009, one month after he got the verbal beatdown by Rush Limbaugh. In the great state of Texas, during a televised session on voter protection fellow GOP party member state rep Betty Brown said Asian-Americans need to come up with more accessible names.

She said;“Rather than everyone here having to learn Chinese — I understand it’s a rather difficult language — do you think that it would behoove you and your citizens to adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here?”

Brown went further when she told Chinese-American community organizer Ramey Ko, “Can’t you see that this is something that would make it a lot easier for you and the people who are poll workers if you could adopt a name just for identification purposes that’s easier for Americans to deal with?”

Here’s the video of that incident…

Perhaps Senator John Coryn should clean up his own backyard and ask Texas State Rep Betty Brown to resign before stepping to Harry Reid

Like I said Steele was nowhere to be seen. He wasn’t on TV calling for Brown’s retirement. And not to make this a partisan issue but facts are facts, the Democrats in the Texas House asked only for an apology. They did not ask for her to resign. To this day you don’t hear too many Republicans talk about this infamous incident. They try to downplay it. But I guess we’ll have to bring this up now that Texas  senator John Cornyn went and opened his big mouth by demanding that Harry Reid resign.

This is the same Senator Coryn who resides in a state that is 30% Latino voted ‘No’ to confirm President Obama’s Supreme Court pick, Judge Sonia Satamayor. Coryn was all up in arms, being pompous and showing outrage at remarks Justice Sonia Satamayor made that he considered racially insensitive. I guess I can understand that if he was consistent. He said ‘No’ to Sotomayor,  but not once did he ask representaive Betty Brown to step down… Coryn has no creditibility thus nothing more needs to be said. I guess Steele, Coryn and that whole cabal are only willing to do the Jesse Jackson thing to a point.

On a somewhat lighter note one has to wonder if Senator Reid expressed concern about the use of ‘Negro Dialect’ when Senator Hillary Clinton broke it out  during her campaign. In the same vein did Michael Steele, Senator Coryn or any of their ilk ask Hillary to step down and resign for her ‘Negro speaking moments’? This of course raises the question to which the answer should be more than obvious, ‘Is what we seen expressed over this past week, righteous indignation, a genuine response to racial insensitivity or political opportunity’? As they say in the hood It’s all politics-It’s all politricks.

Blackface is the New Black

You ever see that blog Stuff White People Like? Well, blackface should most definitely be on that list. For whatever reason some whites love to paint their faces black and then express profound shock when black people get offended. Now to be fair, Asians will get in on the foolishness as well. Which makes me wonder how in 2009 seemingly intelligent people can be so offensive yet “oblivious” at the same time.

In the recent high profile incident of blackface on a variety show in Australia, the offending party, who referred to themselves as the “Jackson Jive” were all medical doctors. And, I’m sure the people who run French Vogue are experienced professionals. My brother Paradise just reminded me about Halloween coming up and how each year some college fraternity throws a blackface bash whose pictures always seem to make it to the latest social networking site.

Which leads me to the million dollar question, Why? Can we just say it’s racism and close the case? Is it maybe some deep seeded psychological problem? I can tell you one thing, it damn sure ain’t funny. The country is already divided and the fire of hate is being fed 24-7 by the right wing flunkies at Fox News. Why throw a bucket of gasoline on it just to amuse yourself and get a few chuckles form your friends. Is it really worth a potential beat-down if you run into the wrong person? Plus the way things tend to resurface on the internet that blackface may soon become permanent.
