Awkwafina hails from Forest Hills, Queens and has been making a name for herself as of late because of her satirical videos which poke fun of New York City hipsters, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg while humorously extolling the virtues and quirks of ‘the Vag’ (women’s body part). She attended LaGuardia High School where she played trumpet and was trained in classical and jazz music.

She adopted the name Awkwafina, and began rapping and writing songs in Garage Band at age 17. From 2006 to 2008, she attended the Beijing Language and Culture University in Beijing, China, where she studied Mandarin. She also majored in Journalism at SUNY Albany.

Her recently released debut album is called Yellow Ranger.
