This is absurd.. at a time when UC students on all 9 campuses have come together to protest massive fee hikes to the tune of 39%..here come these bozos at UC San Diego…Just goes to show you how backwards some can be.. Thanks Brother Deen Muhammad for passing this story along..

White Fraternity Mocks Black History Month
With “Compton Cookout”

February 17, 2010

SAN DIEGO – – Officials at the UC, San Diego, are condemning a ghetto – themed party organized by fraternity students to mock Black History Month.

A Facebook posting advertising the ‘Compton Cookout’ invited people to a condominium complex off – campus.

The invitation urged all participants to wear chains, rapper-style urban clothing by makers such as FUBU and speak very loudly, according to a Facebook invitation.

Female participants were encouraged to be “ghetto chicks’ with gold teeth, cheap clothes and “short, nappy hair.”

The invitation said the party would serve watermelon, chicken, malt liquor, cheap beer and a purple sugar-water concoction called “dat Purple Drank.”

The party was organized by members of several UCSD fraternities, according to an e-mail from Gary Ratcliff, assistant vice chancellor for student life.

UCSD Chancellor Marye Anne Fox called the party, “offensive” and a “blatant disregard of our campus values.”

We reject acts of discrimination … and we will confront and appropriately respond to such acts,” Fox said.

Read The Invitation To The “Compton Cook Out,” As Posted On Facebook:

“February marks a very important month in American society. No, I’m not referring to Valentines day or Presidents day. I’m talking about Black History month. As a time to celebrate and in hopes of showing respect, the Regents community cordially invites you to its very first Compton Cookout.

For guys: I expect all males to be rockin Jersey’s, stuntin’ up in ya White T (XXXL smallest size acceptable), anything FUBU, Ecko, Rockawear, High / Low top Jordans or Dunks, Chains, Jorts, stunner shades, 59 50 hats, Tats, etc.

For girls: For those of you who are unfamiliar with ghetto chicks – Ghetto chicks usually have gold teeth, start fights and drama, and wear cheap clothes – they consider Baby Phat to be high class and expensive couture. They also have short, nappy hair, and usually wear cheap weave, usually in bad colors, such as purple or bright red. They look and act similar to Shenaynay, and speak very loudly, while rolling their neck, and waving their finger in your face. Ghetto chicks have a very limited vocabulary, and attempt to make up for it, by forming new words, such as “constipulated,” or simply cursing persistently, or using other types of vulgarities, and making noises, such as “hmmg!,” or smacking their lips, and making other angry noises, grunts, and faces. The objective is for all you lovely ladies to look, act, and essentially take on these “respectable” qualities throughout the day.

Several of the regents condos will be teaming up to house this monstrosity, so travel house to house and experience the various elements of life in the ghetto.

We will be serving 40’s, Kegs of Natty, dat Purple Drank – which consists of sugar, water, and the color purple , chicken, coolade, and of course Watermelon. So come one and come all, make ya self before we break ya self, keep strapped, get yo shine on, and join us for a day party to be remembered – or not.”

UCSD begins investigation of frat’s race-mocking party

By Eleanor Yang Su,
UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER

LA JOLLA — University of California San Diego officials have begun an investigation into the off-campus party held Monday that mocked Black History Month, and hope to decide within the next few weeks whether students involved with the event will be disciplined.

The party sparked outrage on a campus that has struggled for years to recruit Black students, and the president of the fraternity whose members helped organize the event issued an apology Wednesday.

The Fraternity regrets the display of ignorance and error-of-judgment made by any individual members who may have attended or were associated via social-media with the racially-offensive party,” Garron Engstrom, chapter president of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, said in the statement.

Engstrom, who did not respond to requests for comment, noted the event was not an official fraternity event. He said disciplinary actions have been taken against members, and all members attending the party have been encouraged “to reach out to the African-American community.”

Campus administrators have identified nine partygoers and are trying to learn their motivation for holding the event, said Penny Rue, UCSD’s vice chancellor for student affairs.

The most important thing for me is having the students understand the impact of their actions on the rest of the community,” Rue said. “And secondly, to understand what they were thinking.

In an invitation circulated on Facebook, party organizers said they would be serving “Kegs of Natty, dat Purple Drank — which consists of sugar, water, and the color purple, chicken, coolade, and of course Watermelon.”

Male partygoers were urged in the invite to wear white T-shirts “XXXL smallest size acceptable.” Females were given this guidance: “Ghetto chicks have a very limited vocabulary, and attempt to make up for it, by forming new words, such as ‘constipulated’, or simply cursing persistently, or using other types of vulgarities, and making noises, such as ‘hmmg!’, or smacking their lips, and making other angry noises, grunts, and faces.”

Rue said it’s too early to say whether student conduct codes have been violated, but noted many policies don’t apply off campus. In the case of the party, fewer rules apply because the event was not sanctioned or organized by a specific student organization, just fraternity members.

UCSD’s conduct code bars cheating, theft and sexual offenses, among other things. For off-campus incidents, the university has discretion to discipline students for misconduct “under limited circumstances,” based on the seriousness of the misconduct, impact on the campus community and university’s ability to gather information.

Justin A. Buck, executive vice president at the fraternity’s headquarters in Memphis, Tenn., denounced the actions of the UCSD members involved in the incident and stated the fraternity’s constitution does not discriminate on the basis of race.

Several UCSD students said they have been unimpressed by the university’s response, especially given the larger challenge it faces in recruiting Black students, who make up less than 2 percent of undergraduates.

The students are fed up,” said David Ritcherson, the head of UCSD’s Black Student Union. “The campus climate is horrible. People are thinking about transferring.”

Others say the administration has overreacted, and should not get involved with off-campus parties.

Bryan Kim, a UCSD senior from central California, said he had been planning to host a similar racially themed party this month tied to Black History Month. He wanted attendees to dress up as gangster rappers and participate in a costume contest judged by a Black friend.

People laugh at stereotypes because there’s an element of fun,” Kim said. “People need to get a sense of humor or they’re just going to spend their whole life being angry about things they can’t control.”
Pi Kappa Alpha incidents
• At Georgia State University, fraternity members showed up in Black face at a “Straight Outta Compton” hip – hop themed party in 2004.

• Pike members at Washington State University were disciplined after a Black football player was beaten up at a fraternity party in 2001.

• Members of the fraternity at Chapman University in Orange were involved in a brawl that injured two Black students in 1993.

“First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to‘order’ than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says;

‘I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can’t agree with your methods of direct action;’ who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a ‘more convenient season.’

Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.”

Earlier today, someone (a woefully ignorant / belligerent Black male) attempted to argue with me. He posited that Caucasians have changed. My response was / is: Collectively, Caucasians today, the slave master’s children perpetuate the legacy of institutional racism (white supremacy) and have already made plans for tomorrow to continue white supremacy for their posterity.

  1. Absolutely unbelievable. I have no words, other than to state that people today are ignorant, and our so-called “post-racial society” is nonexistent. What a joke!

  2. Hasn’t this been done countless times already? I was just shocked that reports from, say, Halloween weren’t told via the MSM. It’s a given that many of these folks (higher ed. included) aren’t too bright and will continue to show their dimbulbs throughout the year.

  3. UCSD black enrollment = 2%. there’s your problem right there.

  4. FRUITOFISLAM19 says

Silly devils are at it again. That’s why integration was a hypocritical trick to make black people believe that our 400 year old enemies all of sudden became our friends overnight and all is forgiven. How pathetic these college clowns act. The brothers and sisters in Compton, CA didn’t deserve this. The rogues continue to do this because they think its funny to make fun of blacks who are poor or
working class. This white supremacy that these white college students at UCSD fraternaties and most white people have in general is a mental defect.Scumbags.

  5. Robert Jr. James McClendon says

Compton and Hip-hop, I’m not condoning this ignorance, but where did these kids actually grow up seeing these stereotypical images? Thnk for a second… When I say Helping Ignorant People – Hurt Our People – Hip-hop is just as responsible for all of these “new” sterotypical images. Let’s be honest and “real”. Do not condone the ignorance, but look at the source where it came from. Now, follow the money trail… Image is everything, and unfortunately we control none of the media images. Why is that?! Follow the trail…

    • Robert thats absolutely dumb.. a few years ago white frats on campuses.. went around wearing African garb and pretending to be ‘ignorant africans.. They took things that were supposed to be culturally enriching and clowned them.. should Black folks abandon Kinte cloth now? When I was in school we didn’t have NWA or Gangsta rap.. instead people made fun of Blacks by wearing big afros and throwing up the Black power sign.. They were making fun of the Black liberation, Jesse Jackson who had just run for president, The NOI etc.. In fact rappers weren’t even on the menu.. Wrong is wrong.. Stop defending BS and stop blaming victims.. Idon’t think the young brothers and sisters at UCSD walk around acting like Lil Wayne or Gucci mane.. and even if they did.. its juxtapose with the young men and women who dress and mimic the styels of other celebrities ranging from Goth rockers, to the Kadashians..Those people were wrong end of story..

  6. Robert Jr. James McClendon won’t debate with “privileged” white women (his label, not mine) but he will condone privileged white boys offensive behavior even when he claims he is not.

McClendon, you are a joke and your entire premise is filled with contradiction.

If Hip Hop doesn’t control it’s images, then how can you in the same breath blame it for the images being held against them?

Gangsta rap isn’t the problem. Start attacking the people who need to be held accountable, like the receiving end of the “money trail” you write about. Gangsta Rap is a mere fraction of all that is Hip Hop, the fact that BIg Business hijacks it to profit off of people’s pain is where you should be pointing your finger.

Kids love that which is provocative, Big Business exploits this.

Get a clue. Apologists like you help ignorant people hurt others.

  7. A while back, when I was at UC Berkeley, a frat was planning a similar “celebration” in “honor” of Cinco de Mayo. A Chicana friend of mine (all 4’11” of her) got wind of the party and rushed up in the house that afternoon during preparations. She informed the party planners that she was going to alert her brother, a real life gang member from East Oakland, to the party and he and his people were going to do a drive by on the party. The party was promptly canceled.

I’m certainly not condoning this action (who do you think would have gotten in deep trouble, even if no violence occurred?), I’m just relating one person’s response.

  8. Hate to be a devil’s advocate but as long as we allow our OWN people to continually perpetuate the same type of behavior we are so adamant about defending when others wave it in our faces we are always going to be the butt of jokes. I am even more appalled when I see ignorance being accepted as “being black” by my own people, when I see my own people NOT supporting each other economically, and when I see my own people labeling the pursuit of higher education “acting white” even in this age of Obama. Until WE collectively remove the plank from OUR own eyes we will forever be a living testament to the true power of the Willie Lynch Syndrome.

    16-5-1-3-5?!?

    • Goldie.. wrong is wrong.. when I was in collge these white frats had the same racist themed party except they made fun of people wearing African garb and calling for equal rights.. did we need to change that? Also not all black folks are gonna be on the same page.. There is no united council to say we shouldn’t listen to lil wayne or Gucci Mane.. my point being what does some pop culture artist have to do with racist behavior.. and what does that have to do with those who are subjected to it, who may in fact have been the furthest thing away from such stereotypes.. >

  9. You real can’t take these uneducated UCSD white trailer trash anywhere. This is what happens when more than one of these guys puts their minds together.

  10. Point taken Brother D. My only thing is that I get so sick and tired of the disunity among our people. I am a veteran of the US Marines, I, after public and private school, now home school my children, I am all for self-sufficiency and black enterprise, and I worked with lower income/public housing residents to attempt to form self-sustaining community based non-profit organizations in Mississippi. I say all of that to say this: in the armed forces we have the least unity amongst each other as far as other ethnic cultures go. For example when I was stationed in Japan and in Hawaii, quite often sisters and brothers would turn their heads and look the other way when you did something as simple as greet them spoke to them. I operated a small family-oriented legit store-front business down South and sisters and brother would tell me, to my face, they don’t buy from “niggers” and would proceed to spend more for less quality with other hood vultures (cultures). Brother I swear I made MORE selling out of my trunk in the parking lots of barber and beauty shops then I did with a storefront where the prices were cheaper. I don’t know if you are familiar with Brother Jawanza Kunjufu’s work entitled, Countering the Conspiracy to Destroy Black Boys, but it is all too real the insurmountable obstacles OUR youth face. I experienced early on many of the detrimental conditions this brother addresses in his books and found I was ill-prepared for what I encountered. The American public school system is indeed deficient and in desperate need of revamping, but that is only a drop in the bucket as far as the total sum of deprecating conditions within our little neck of the woods. I visited San Francisco and Oakland the latter part of last year and was shocked to see such a self-described “liberal and progressive” area of this nation lacking in both true freedom and real leadership. Where I reside now, the Board of Education is actually considering doing away with 12th grad, in addition to the “furlough Fridays” they already employ in a last ditch effort to make their annual budget. Who will hurt the most from this and other asinine decisions no one seems to have the balls to confront? All I am saying brother is that white folks have been showing their true colors since the inception of this crooked establishment called “America.” Only in American can ALL men have the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness yet own men as slaves and it’s all good. There will always exist a double standard and a loophole for them to take advantage of. What I want to see in my lifetime (I am 37 now) is our people at least gain a semblance of unity like so many other cultures seem to have all around us in our own homeland. I want to see us become heated when the next subservient reality show airs where a black man rename a black woman (like slaves) and proceed to help her degrade herself for his soon fleeting affection. I want to see our people rally around the next sister or brother that publishes an awe-aspiring novel or work of substance or a documentary, not when their latest LP goes platinum or gold. I try my best to teach my seeds to hold themselves accountable when they are indeed the ones whom drops the ball. You make a mistake own up to it, learn from it and grow. But I must ask you my brother what messages are we as a people sending to the global arena about our seriousness to be taken serious in these days and times when the only thing that seems to hold our attention and rebellion is nothing compared to the bigger picture? It is indeed all good as I continue to search for today’s “Quilombo.”

    P-E-A-C-E?!?

  11. Benito Juarez says

I will tell you what I have seen these last few days, I saw people from different backgrounds, my children, my brothers and sisters come together in solidarity, and got the message heard.

This reminds me of a parable from the good book where a Levite and Priest come upon a man who fell among thieves and they both individually passed by and didn’t stop to help him. Finally a man of another race came by, he got down from his beast, decided not to be compassionate by proxy and got down with the injured man, administered first aid, and helped the man in need. Jesus ended up saying, this was the good man, this was the great man, because he had the capacity to project the “I” into the “thou,” and to be concerned about his brother.

You see, the Levite and the Priest were afraid, they asked themselves, “If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?”

But then the Good Samaritan came by. And he reversed the question: “If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?”

That’s the question before us. The question is not, “If I stop to help my brother in need, what will happen to me?” The question is, “If I do not stop to help my brother, what will happen to him or her?” That’s the question.

God bless all my brothers and sister that stood side by side with our brothers and sisters in need, when you saw a wrong you tried to correct it, you may argue the methods but not the reasons. I know God will not discriminate by country of origin, our sex, our orientation, color of our skin, or our religion as men do.

  12. Robert Jr. James McClendon says

It’s your board, Davey D, just reminds me of the Asian dude who came up wit hthe ghetto monoploly game. Time to “grow-up” and face the fact that you can’t find whtie racism and collect checks from white jews at the same time. Something just don’t be jibbing over here, Racism is perpetuated by hip-hop. “Knowledge of self” is the cure – not hip-hop. Can’t have cake and it it two with this racism and hip-hop crap, Davey D. I always watch the money trail to see who “everybody” is really working for. .

  13. Robert Jr. James McClendon says

I love white people acting like they care for the po’ black chillin, Kristie. YOU BE REAL. I KNOW EXACTLY WHO YOU WORKIN’ FOR.

  14. Hey. Thanks for this post. I cruise alot of blogs just to see what I can find new and I liked yours. I am a student in Cosmotology so if you have a link to subcribe to your blog could you let me know so I can do that. I would like to read more when you post them.

    Monica

  15. First of all it’s Krista, genius, not Kristie but that just highlights your lack of attention to detail. Second of all, you should have stayed true to your word and not engaged in debate with whites, but that just highlights your contradictory nature and third, you are the only person on this board calling the hip hop community “po’ black chillen.”

I see what I said touched you, good.

  16. You were all wrong

  17. This is funny in a way. I’ve always thought Black History Month was just ignorant. I’m not racist, I’ve had family members who were black. But they were not ‘niggers’. There are many people like me in this matter. We treat blacks with equal rights and fairness, but when a black man walks around with a tshirt thats made for a fat man, sings about rape, money, killing, drugs, and mistreatment of women, then he is a ‘nigger’. There are many other terms, for other races too that do it. In my white population we call them honkeys, white trash, etc.

In other words, I treat anyone with the utmost respect, “Love thy neighbor” right, no matter what race? But I will be outwardly hateful to people that do shit like above mentioned. Not because of race, its simple because of their way of living that is not healthy in any way to our society. And THAT is the only reason I will ever discriminate.

  18. I know people are gonna piss down my back over this, but that would just prove their lack of judgment, and their swiftness to jump to conclusions about something because they automatically think that its wrong and will naturally be biased about the subject. In no way is are my views racist, just call them socialist. (And now people will call me a Nazi) But if you think about it socialist is the more logical name for it. It means I discriminate people who willingly, or unwillingly are hurting our society in great ways. You may think “Oh one thug on the street carrying a gun and mugging people isn’t going to hurt our society.” No? Well hundreds of thousands will! Just give it a good ponder before making blatant remarks. As for Black History Month? If you want to basque in your grandparents and great grandparents pain and suffering then by all means do so. But please… It’s February. =P

  19. SupremeWisdomByNGE says

    @DUKE
FUKKK you punk ass devil bumping shit about black people. You inbred cousin marrying backwards dog fuckin redneck piss me off. By the way black history month was never ignorant, you dumb bitch cracka.Wish you would talk shit around real Compton brothas and sistas and get your punk ass whooped real quick. You former klansman self can go throw yourself into a volcano and fry because your ass is worthless and just plain ignorant…. FUKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK you BITCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. This stuff definately works. I bought it 2 weeks ago and my teeth look great.

  21. graduation stoles says
  22. TMartins says

First, why are many black people so damn paranoid? Every slight or joke has to necessarily constitute racism? Even if it is playing on stereotypes, if you can’t laugh at yourselves, then you seriously have problems! And when it comes to make fun of other races, the double standard, don’t even get me started on that! Black people do it like crazy (and certainly no just about white people) and I know I grew in such a househo;d.

If you ask me, most of the people who complain about these kinds of stupid things (because that’s really all it is – a stupid thing that hurts nobody) is stuck in their own extremely racial paradigm. All they see is white and black. On the other hand, people who don’t live in that paradigm, simply don’t give a crap about such juvenile bull. Why waste a second worrying about the stupid stuff frat guys do! I mean, seriously!!!

The civil rights movement of the 50s and 60s was an extraordinary thing but, face it, no matter how nostalgic you get, those days are over. Everywhere you look, there is “equal opportunity” this, affirmative action that and minority career fairs, scholarships, televison, radio, exclusive clubs. For, heaven’s sake, the President is a person of color! It’s come to the point, where the scale is tipping in the opposite direction.

Why don’t we focus on the important things, like trying to educate our own, reduce poverty, increase employment, reduce violence/misogynism and increase political participation!

    That’s my two cents!

  23. What the fuck says

This is shit! I’m white my self and honestly this is the bs that makes me angry! I hope they walk in a gang area and get there heads blown off! Fucking racist white trash redneck motherfuckers!!!!

  24. What the fuck says

I would personally stomp each of there heads in a concrete floor if I had the chance, stupid ass fucking rednecks! In fact I bet their moms r also their and wives and aunts! I think all white trash should go die in a ditch!!! Fucking trash eating bitches

  25. JIM COMPTON says

I am a Native American from Oklahoma and i’m alot more than an 1/8 CDIB and i’m not Cherokee either.

It’s a shame that everyone worry’s so much about one race of people here. The use of mascot’s in universities have made fun of the Native American, American Indian, First people ect for years. Even Pro sports have and still use them today. Look at the cartoons they use to sell thier gimmicks. Why not a footbal team called the Washington Coons instead of the Redskins which is the samething as the N word everyone is so scared of saying.
So Parties like this are ok untill everyone plays by the same rules.

  26. watermelon, chicken, malt liquor, cheap beer says

“watermelon, chicken, malt liquor, cheap beer and a purple sugar-water concoction” Honestly, sounds not that bad. The only thing which is missing in their advertisement are real north american black people, one facete of human diversity, distinguished only by a tragic history, athleticism, more pigments and sexy bubble butts. I would say some hispanics would have been an enrichment too, I like mexican food, listening to spanish and dancing salsa. Everything else is daily routine, laughing, working, paying bills, bringing kids to school, meeting friends. Looking TV how white, black, hispanic and arabic north americans try to dictate democracy in Irak and Afghanistan and europeans in Lybia. How animals are punished in factory farming. How humans try to be more than naked apes and still behave like that. Every black, hispanic or white ignorant here and elsewhere in the world could kiss my (coincidentally) white ass. Amen.

  27. This is hilarious. Get over yourselves.
SupremeWisdomByNGE, kill yourself, you waste of life.

  28. SO far what have black people done to alleviate the stereotypes purported to hunt them?
