Louis Vuitton says Rick Ross’s Sun Glasses on XXl Cover Fake!

rickrosscoverThe XXL Editors received this letter from Louis Vuitton concerning the May 2009 cover of Rick Ross.
Dear Editor:
We were dismayed to see the cover of the May 2009 issue of XXL Magazine, which features a photo of Rick Ross wearing a pair of sunglasses prominently featuring
counterfeit Louis Vuitton trademarks. Because the photo has generated considerable confusion among your readers and Louis Vuitton customers among others,

we feel it is important to clarify several points.
The first is that the sunglasses Mr. Ross is wearing were not made by Louis Vuitton, and in fact, are counterfeit. Louis Vuitton did not grant permission to Mr. Ross

or to whoever did make the sunglasses to use our trademarks. The second is that no affiliation, sponsorship or association exists between Rick Ross or XXL and Louis Vuitton.

The third is that counterfeiting is illegal.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to correct the confusion.
Sincerely,
Michael D. Pantalony, Esq.
Louis Vuitton Malletier

  1. Some people are too obsessed with luxury brands. To the point they’re making you pay extra money for fake shit! WHAT!

  2. AAAAAhahahahahahah!

  3. dapper dan says

do i get the distinct impression that a maker of luxury goods is embarrassed to have their trademark and logo on the cover of a major national magazine, which reaches an audience they have done little outreach to? has this photo really “generated confusion”? or has it generates sales/brand awareness for LV? you’d think that free advertising would be something LV appreciates, but no. one is reminded of the straight-up racism of companies like timberland, polo, and tommy hilfiger, who were similarly unclear on the concept when they realized that their stuff was being worn by people other than preppies. Props to RR not only for maintaining plausible deniability regarding his credibility problem, but for making a pair of $20 flea market specials look fly. that’s how you maintain “hoodness.”

  4. Reminds me of a line from Jay-Z’s Imaginary Player …. “Those ain’t Rolex diamonds, what the fuck you done to that?!”

I side with LV. If Rick Ross raps about how he has so much cash to throw around and such expensive taste …. Why not go straight to LV and get them to make you a pair of one of a kind. Why would you buy authentic shades and take them to joe schmoe down the block and ask him to make them look different or pimp them out?! That just cheapens them to the level of knock offs.

So, when people seen the logo on the mag. and went down to LV and was like “I want these!” ……..You know they was like “WTF?!”

It’s like buyin’ a Rolls Royce and turnin’ it into a donk……yeah, it’s still a RR, but it’s a worthless POS!!!!!
