Funkmaster Flex Threatens To Ban All Interscope Artists

Throughout the broadcast, Flex made several references to an employee at Interscope Records whom he referred to as Nino.
“Like I told you, Interscope Records is a label,” Funkmaster Flex explained on his show. “They have G-Unit—they have 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo. They have Akon’s label too…A lot of your favorite artists New York, but let me tell you something. That label is trying to make some decisions. Nino, let me tell you something Nino. New York, I’m talking to a person who makes decisions. Who does things up there moving funny style.”
Flex then went on to explain that he will no longer play any music from artists on Interscope unless changes are made.
“Interscope Records, nothing is spinning…I take pride in how I’m gonna do this movement,” Flex explained.
Flex even urged 50 Cent to leave the label telling the Queens rapper, “From what I understand your deal’s up at Interscope. We got you. I’d walk out that building after that. Let’s do it, let’s do it.”
If Flex’s boycott were to in fact happen, major artists such as Eminem and Dr. Dre will no longer be in Flex’s rotation.

I can appreciate where Flex is coming from, but it seems a little late in the game to get righteous about the quality and content of millennial Hip Hop. Hasn’t he gotten all the mileage there is to get out of mainstream radio playing the exact same stuff that he’s now protesting?
Not only is it grossly imbalanced for one DJ to have the power to make a move like that, but it’s pompous and arrogant for Flex to think that he can sustain such a movement. In this scenario, Flex reminds me of one of those Japanese soldiers in an Iwo JIma cave who thinks thinks the US Navy is right outside. It’s a new battle in a new theater of operations. Social media has changed the game.
For me, it’s about balance. The content in some Hip Hop music wouldn’t be such an issue if diversity was fairly represented in the mainstream. But you know what, social media IS the new mainstream. The rug has been pulled and what we are presently witnessing is the collective ass busting of the entire mainstream media. (Cue the cartoon rug pulling sound efx)
He picked the wrong year..with Em and Dre coming out on Interscope. His hearts’ in the right place but you have to choose your battles.

would you all still care if i told you this is because hot 97 is angry that interscope didn’t give them black eyed peas for a concert?
Doing a koncious Hiphop show, i rarely if ever have to play any of that slophop from edgar bronfman’s old interscope records. most of the scopes musik which encourages fratricide, self-hate, materialism and disrespect of our mothers, daughters, grandmothers, etc. As i see the conditions of Afrikans in the US (and the world) go from bad to worse, the quality of the music plays a roll. The enemy wants to promote behavior that destroys our families and lands us in prisons.
